So two years, 13.5 for Armstrong? Or three years, 16.5 for Michael Pierce? Give me Pierce all day no brainer and clog the middle

Right, but that was never going to happen under the philosophy the Joneses use. Even if it doesn't make sense (which it doesn't), they would rather pay their own than pay similar or lesser money to another team's free agents. It's the idea that we know our guys, so we know what to expect from them.

Broadus went into one of his assessments last week sometime comparing Armstrong to Gregory.

He laid claim to Armstrong had 5 sacks and Gregory had six. It took another one of the microphone experts to suggest Armstrong couldn't get on the field most of the season. I have not vetted this, but Armstrong has never been impressive as far as I can remember. For offensive linemen, never hearing their name is a good thing. For defensive linemen it is the opposite.

In a sense, re-signing Armstrong was probably a higher priority with the Joneses. They tried to re-sign Gregory but lost him, so Armstrong had to be re-signed in order to have a "quality" body manning RDE. They already re-signed Hooker, so technically they have two starting safeties (Wilson and Hooker) if Kearse walks.
Armstrong isnt a “quality” body

I like the player. Not great at anything, but has a high motor and is relentless in his pursuit to the ball. A poor man's Greg Ellis.

Not bad...it's in the range of where a DL of his caliber has gone for so far. See Jacob Martin who the Jets just signed for reference - 3 years, 16 mil for a guy from the 2018 Draft too

You get two years to see what Armstrong can do in an expanded role. If he does well then he'll be in line for a bigger payday. If he gives you 5-6 sacks again as a backup pass rusher with his great special teams play then it's worth it

He's a good backup (at least he was last year) who isn't a total liability as a starter. I do not consider him a quality starter, but it doesn't matter what I think. He's the seat filler at right end.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the contract is really like $6 million guaranteed.
Considering it's a two year deal and you're obviously planning on having him on the team this year, that's about half, so you're not getting around paying him 6 million for this year OR cutting him next year.

Both scenarios aren't good.

Only way the team wins is if he just goes wild with a 10 plus sack season then they have him below market next year.

Doubtful, and this is a lose/lose for all intents and purposes. An obvious knee jerk reaction to Gregory.

But that's what they do.....compound one mistake with another.

He had his best season for us last year and became a good backup whereas before that, he was just someone we rotated in because we had to give the starters a break. I'm not upset at the signing. It isn't what we need to do to help the team get better, but he definitely is a good player to have in the rotation.

Our ends are now Lawrence, Armstrong, Basham and Golston, with Parsons figured in as a pass rusher. I think that's all we'll do until the draft at that position. Not happy about it, but it is the Jones way.

I’m guessing the contract will be set up with around $2 million year one, $8 year two with a 3 million signing bonus. Could be way off, we will see with the numbers.

They did hat. His name is Demarcus Lawrence, and he is in the top of the league in pressures

He was already on the roster. He took a payout to stay. I like him but let's not act like we stole something.
