MichaelWinicki;1370052 said:The Commanders have had that point-of-view for a few seasons now-- And how's that worked out?
The bottom line is if you have a young guy (James) that has shown the ability to play this game at a high level and was compensated a great amount to continue doing so-- but slipped for one reason or another-- then I think you better give the young guy another opportunity.
CB, Guard, NT, Yeah those are all positions where I would suggest investing money into for a younger player because it seems that our depth isn't starting material or hasn't proven to be starting material...
And I won't even get into the age issue on Edwards which totally turns me off.
CATCH17;1370091 said:The Commanders have done that at every position for the past 5 years and they keep signing a lot of players.
So I know it wouldnt hurt us at all to do that with even 1 guy and thats not even what im suggesting.
Like I said if hes asking for an insane price then I wouldnt do it.
But Donnie Edwards is a major upgrade to this defense and helps us in a lot of ways.
We're not just bringing in a really good player, we are bringing in a really good player who can help guys on the field in this defense.
Also isnt the cap supposed to become a lot softer in a couple years?

Edwards....eh. He'd be good, in that he's familiar with the defense, but LB isn't a priority. I think we'll see alot out of the LBs we do have here. Ellis, if he comes back, may move back down to the DE spot.
BrAinPaiNt;1369456 said:I agree only because this guy will want a huge contract and it appears he has been complaining about the contract he has had in SD.
We don't need to put big money into aging players...we should have learned that by now.
Now...If he would come for a small price, no problem because we don't take much of a chance...but chances are he will want a big contract and I say we pass on that idea.
That depends on alot of things. Is Carpenter an ILB? Is Ellis even a LB anymore if he comes back? He could play DE in Wade's system. Could we get 2005 Bradie James back? Can Burnett play OLB consistently? We have a plethora of LBs - and if they work out, we don't need any mroe starters.summerisfunner;1370312 said:ILB is definitely a priority

summerisfunner;1370355 said:again, ILB is definitely a priority
superpunk;1370367 said:No. ILB might be a priority, if Carpenter doesn't move inside, Bradie stays 2006 Bradie, and we have no OLB so Carpenter has to remain outside. It's not definitely a priority. There are several areas that are of greater need.
