I just don't see the deal happening. I don't think they'll want to part with Williams for pick 22 or 28.

The only way I think they do this is for both picks.

That's why I don't think it'll happen.

Say what you want about Millen. I think he realizes he's had enough bad publicity. Trading one of their best players would get him railroaded.
I don't think they want to either but with the money they have in WR they might not have a choice.

well it doesn't mean they have to trade him. if they don't resign him or give him an extention teams know he will be a FA after next season. so teams won't give up that much. plus it's 1 more year with Roy to help groom calvin johnson.

Boy, I hope so.

Roy Williams for the 22nd or 28th pick would be perfection.

Guess the most interesting thing to me is whether we want to actually trade for him at all. It is apparent that if he becomes a FA next year, there is a very good chance we could get him for free (as far as picks). Only bad thing about that is the possiblity of him being franchised.

For us, we could use him this year of course, cause we are trying to make a run at the SB. Easy to see both sides of it, but it is hard for me to think they will just let him walk for nothing, which is why I kinda believe they would at least franchise him, heck he is one of their best players, and to get nothing for him at all would be just plain stupid.

I figure the easiest way to get him is to trade for him this year, cause next year I believe they will franchise him.

Probably. But the trade would have to be contingent on a new contract being reached. Roy could just say no to them and only work with Dallas if he really wanted to come home.

Money Talks. I'm sure Roy just loves Dallas, but I doubt if a team with a better pick offers it to the Lions, and offers Roy more money than Dallas.....I'm pretty sure he'll wait a few more years to get back home.

Money will cure his home sickness.

why do people keep mentioning this? every team has a cap, it's not like jerry can be goerge steinbrenner and buy all the good players.

Don't tell me in all that Darren McFadden talk that you've never thought about how much he would cost.

I didn't mean it in that Jerry just buys whatever he wants. I meant it as in; Jerry pays players he thinks are worth it. If it really came down to a money issue, I'd take Jerry over a whole lot of the GMs in the league.

There is one HUGE problem that could derail this whole thing and will make you guys sick! Philly needs a WR more than we do, and McNabb has been crying about this for years. They own the 19th pick, and have Lito Sheppard on the block. Just a scenario to look out for! Please feel free to puke now.

Philly will not trade a first rounder and Lito to the Lions for Roy who's contract is up after this season. They'd have to agree to a sign and trade and theres no guarentee Roy will agree to go to Philly.

hell yea he's worth a first rounder...No brainer!.

Fisrt rounders are 50/50..You might get a good or great player or you might just get a mediocre under achiever or back up player. Roy Williams is a proven stud.

oh ok i get what you're saying. i just always hear stuff like what you said and "jerry has a lot of money" and i'm just like "but jerry is only allowed to spend the same amount as everybody else". oh and Dmac will be worth the cost.

what's your point?

Since that thread this RW to Dallas story has appeared and won't go away. Go figure.

BTW, I shall be keeping my eye out for a post that will detail our first round draft target(s). Guess who will post it?;)

what? is your point that you wanted him here since the beginning of last season? or that your friend has info that a kid who grew up in odessa wants to play for the Dallas cowboys? if so that's shocking! if not let me know what you were aiming for.
You misinterpreted the meaning of "through a friend" in the 2nd post.

You have to think Detriot knows this too though... It's going to take more than a first rounder because Roy Williams is a first rounder (that's lived up to expectations) and they have Calvin Johnson who could learn a lot from Williams (at least for another year). They'll do it for a first, I just think it's going to take a little bit more in addition. I am thinking a solid defensive player too. Not Akin, Carp or Spears before anyone says anything...

Next year, they are not going to get anything near a 1st round pick for him. Personally, I would not trade a 1st round pick for him. I would only do this if we were getting something else in return. I think he can be had for a 2nd. JMO.

You think nobody else would give them a pick earlier than the 28th pick in the second round?

Next year they can't trade him at all. He is a UFA at the end of this year.

Hmmm, and I assume if they franchise him, they can't trade him either?

Good point. They can, but they have to be able to fit the Franchise number for a WR under the cap before they can do that.

Their best option by far is to trade him now.

Now, you just have to convince Matt Millen of that.

Speak very slowly and take along some charts and pictures. Maybe he'll get it.
