Article: Jeb Bush as NFL Commish?

What would that matter though? The job requires someone who can oversee TV contracts, Labor negotiations, Revenue sharing, etc.

I don't care one whit if fans like him or not if he can do the job.

I agree and if you recall not many were fans of Tag after he took the job after Rozell. This is not a popularity contest the Commissioners office works between the players union and the owners and works as part of a tie breaker between the owners.

Wouldn't one need a law degree to adequately perform these types of duties?

Rozell was not a lawyer, his back ground was in marketing. If you look at many of the different commissioners who have been in different sports there really is not 1 particular back ground they all shared.

As I posted in the now deleted thread, I think he'd be more of a figurehead -- sure he does complex stuff as the gov. but this is totally different -- that doesn't mean he can't learn it but it would be the case that Roger Goodell would be running all the stuff as he learned.

The last thing the league needs is something that may drive some fans away -- and believe me -- there are casual fans who would not like this one bit -- you drive fans away then you've got smaller TV contracts etc.

Yeah -- but did large #s of folks truly hate Tags and his family?

Doubt it.

I think so which is why I asked if he was a lawyer.

No one knew. I think that would be vital info to know.

I'm still not a fan of his

I didn't see it, where is it?

Ask TB....destroyer of threads. lol

It's drifting off into the magical world of internet thread graveyards now....and so you will never know, how easter eggs are created.

Jeb family is not going to be running the NFL, if Jeb is offered the job and accepts the job so what and what do the fans have to say about it anyways. No one ask us about Tags getting the job now did they?

Again, who gives a rat's butt if people hate him? Can he do a good job? That's all I'd care.

Tags was a Skins season ticket holder and many don't like him. He's done an overall fantastic job.

I just saw it in the other thread. Not bad. I like it.

Fans are fickle. They'd come back.

You know the guys who were "leaving because we signed TO?" Read every day just about. Don't post, but is this really "going away?"

Excuse my cynicism over the impending doom this could cause if it happened.

I hope he is the RIGHT man for the job. Maybe CHAD Hutchinson will come back to the NFL, he's been HANGING about.

:laugh1:

I don't believe he is...says he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from University of Texas, but nothing about a law degree.

Of course with someone like TO, the anger will go away when there is a nice TD play.

Jeb is linked to someone who has taken actions and enacted policies that *might* continue to bother many folks for a long long time to come.

I'm not calling it a case of impending doom -- just one that could turn sour because of association rather than performance.

That to me is a strike against.

I will bet barely 1% will turn away from NFL if Jeb Bush is selected a NFL Commish, as long as he doesn't bring outside politics into NFL. Even then, that 1% would forget in few days and everything will be back to normal.

Because NFL is about the product on the field ultimately not who runs it or owners for the most part. If product is great, you only increase the fan base, bottom line.

If you lose 1% of your fans because of a hiring decision, doesn't that suggest you are doing something wrong?

If the average NFL team is worth $733 million (according to Forbes), a 1% loss in fanbase would translate to about $7 mill per club.

Sounds like a poor business decision to me.

Again, you assuming they will not root for their team. Thats a stretch, when I said 1% of overall fans. And I assuming they will be more of casual fan variety.

I'm guessing that if certain points continue along certain paths that this thread will also find it's way to the Dead Zone.

There will be NO MORE warnings...

Casual fans still mean $$.

and i'm interested in why you think Jeb would be apolitical as the commish but Hillary or Ted Kennedy wouldn't.
