As great as they are, we’re a bad matchup for the Saints

Unless you’re Tampa Bay in week one, you aren’t going to beat the Saints in a shootout. You need a running game that will eat the clock and keep Drew Brees off the field as long as possible, and a quarterback that won’t turn the ball over and give them any extra possessions. On defense, you need athletic linebackers that can cover Kamara sideline-to-sideline, as well as physical corners that can man their possession receivers straight up. We have the personnel on both sides of the ball to limit their explosiveness. Coaching is the main reason why we’re rightfully the underdogs, but if anybody has the makings to upset this Saints team while they’re hitting on all cylinders, it’s us. This could be 2009 all over again.

Agree to some extent. But their run D is stout. If we can’t run the ball doubtful we can sustain drives.

If we save our best schemes and tricks for the playoffs, Dallas stands the best chance to beat the Saints when it counts.

If Dallas can only beat the Saints 1 time out of 10, let it be during the playoffs.

Is their run defense really that stout or do they look better than they are because their offense scores so fast and often that opposing teams have to abandon the run early? Either way, we’ve seen Zeke run all over a bunch of stout run defenses over his career.

A little of both, I think.

Dallas can run on them but it won’t be as easy as just calling running plays and out physical-ing them. The passing game will have to back them off and make some third down plays.

Cooper going off on Thursday was good timing. N.O. Knows they have to watch Cooper now.

Six games already have been against top 10 defenses...and after 3 straight wins, the running game is no longer lame. Bring it on, Saints...no mercy asked!

That puts Gallup in single coverage and opens up Beasley. Hurn is now a 4th receiver and being covered as such. Three positive runs, and play action is wide open!

And to your Cooper point, he’s been a first down machine since he’s got here. It definitely will not be easy, but I like our chances.

Their run D looks better because their pass D is horrible. So every one passes on them. I honk with Cooper, it opens it up. Plus they have not faced a real balanced offense except for the Rams.
Heck they really haven’t faced many decent defenses either.

You have to stick with the run. But to do that you have to convert in the air on 3rd downs
To beat the saints we have to top 50% on 3rd downs and keep drew watching

Even when you shorten the game with ball control, and hold down the Saint's scoring by holding down the number of their drives, you still have to convert your own drives to points more often than they do.

The main advantage of the run game is being able to control the clock before the half and at the end of the game. If you get a lead, maybe you can grind the clock so that Brees doesn't get the ball back, even if you don't score yourself.

I’m thinking Cooper will see a lot more over the top help now from the defenses.

Saints run defense will be tested in this game. We’ll see just how good that front seven is.

Don’t think he will. He hasn’t caught a ball over the top. Saints focus will be on making the tackle after he catches.

Their run defense is for sure helped out by the Saints offense jumping out into big leads early
