As in 2009, Felix Jones underutilized

If we had utilized him more maybe Romo would have thrown less INTs.

And that is what I was TRYING to say, more than anything else. Guess I needed to SAY it, huh? My whole point is that, when you're QB is struggling, & you have an RB averaging 9.1 yds./carry, RUN the BALL with Jones more. I was using the whole 20 carries as a measuring tool to emphasize the kind of impact he could have on a game.

Look at Johnson over at Tenn. He's the same size as Felix, and he's tearing up the league. Yeah, Felix was cramping up last night, but so were a lot of players, including Barber. Barber had a great night, but if they use Felix even more & Romo less, that last pick doesn't happen, and they run out the clock. Where's the problem here?

I take it that you did not know that Jones was nursing leg cramps throughout the game and didn't get as many reps as planed. Did you not see his 56 yard run where he was caught from behind by two Giant players? Would never have happened if he was 100%.

I didn't know it was THAT bad. Still, he wasn't used much in the Tampa Bay game, either. Was he hurt last week too? The reason I felt he got caught from behind is that, while he is one of the quickest players in the game, he doesn't have super top end speed. Still, you have a point. They didn't say anything during the game about his being hurt as being the reason he got caught from behind....huh?

I think Felix is still trying to get back into playing shape. He looked gassed with kickoff returns and the few runs he did get. I'm hoping he'll round into shape and we can use him more as the season goes along.

OP, you have to expect the responses you've gotten.

You also have to understand that most of the audience here generally:

1) Thinks Jerry Jones is a great GM who wants to win as bad as the fans do (and defended the Hard Knocks training camp circus in 2008, and then applauded a quieter approach in 2009);

2) Thinks Tony Romo is better than Roethlisberger and Eli Manning;

3) Thinks Jason Garrett is a great coordinator and is head coach material;

4) Thinks Terence Newman is an elite CB;

5) Thinks the franchise is generally headed in the right direction;

6) and, thinks that the consistenly mediocre Wade Phillips knows more about how to build a winning team than the players Jimmy built.

I could go on and on.

As some mentioned, he was getting some leg cramps or he probably would have played more.

Another thing to consider is that he gets more touches than some think, because he is doing the KO returns.

I thought they had a nice balance of getting the RBs their touches and that was not the problem at all in our loss. Heck we had a great running game going.

Now with all of that said. We should see him and Choice with a larger role in this next game because I imagine Barber will not be playing and even if he does I would have to think it would be in a greatly reduced role due to his injury.

MBIII averaged 6.8 yards a carry against the Giants. Just a thought.

Who's to say the OP doesn't agree with most or all of that either.

I do! And I still think Jones has been under utilized. I know health plays a factor for sure.

You know what I want? Or perhaps what I don't want.
I don't want a player averaging 7, 8 or even 9.1 yards a carry while failing to record at least 10 carries a game.

From where I'm sitting, that's the very definition of "under utilized".

Health is a factor as well as game conditions. I don't want to see him touching the ball in games already decided.

For most of games, like the one Sunday nite that get decided in the 4thQ, he should never see less than 10 touches.

I did. I read this thread.

Ah, damnit.

Now I gotta come up with suitable punishment. I know exactly which poster to go read.

Here's good rule of thumb. Players shouldn't average more yards per carry than they do carries per game.

I'm not going to cry over two games.

But if we approch mid season and Felix's avg per carry is still greater than his carries per game, I think it's safe to say someone's stuck on stupid.

You are so right. I was yelling all night to give the guy a handoff between the guards and sure enough he gets one and goes 60 yds. If he was touching it 20 times per game he would lead the NFL in rushing. He is that good. His chance for injury is no more then any other back in the league.

Cogan;2960236 said:
Thank you! Finally, a voice of reason. All I'm saying is that they MUST give a guy who has averaged NINE yards per carry since last season the ball more. And you're absolutely right, he has no more chance of getting injured than Barber, or the next guy. I hated to see my man Marian get hurt last night, but maybe they'll finally give Felix his starting opportunity this week, and he will show them he needs to be toting the rock just a bit more.

I honestly believe that he could be our Tiki Barber or LT if he can get enough touches, and stay healthy of course.

The movie is "Remember the Titans." The scene is the Black and White Players getting to know each other, two are sharing music tastes.

as much as I love Jones he is not a proven every down back yet and MB3 is. Giving Jones 1-2 more carries would not have won that game. Giving him all of MB3s carries would probably not have won the game either...in fact it could have been worse (could have been better too, no way to know). MB3 was pretty darn good Sunday night.
