As usual, Jerry and company are bystanders in FA

It’s the same every year. Fans think day 1 is all that matters.
Free Agency is a long process. There is plenty of time for Dallas to sign the players they are targeting. We all knew they weren’t looking at tier 1 players.

If they sign a RG, an ILB, a CB, and maybe a vet RB or Dowdle, that’s decent going into the draft where they plan to draft WR, RB, DL, etc.
actually you would be wrong. FA is a quick process. those who are worth it, get signed fast and early.

then you have to sift through the remaining garbage to fill the gaps with slightly better garbage at best.

your biggest needs have to get addressed. like DT, Guard, RB, LB, Saftey....and thus you evaluate the market of the FA and fill a couple of gaps with good FAs...then you go garbage shopping and get ready for draft.

Meanwhile, Chicago is building an offensive line through free agency and trades.

They got G Joe Thuney and OL Jonah Jackson in trades and signed C Drew Dalman.

Their strategy seems quite clear, protect Calem Williams with a veteran line.

I think there is a very strong possibility that they will take Jeanty...if he is still there. There could be two RB's gone before the Cowboys get a pick. Good thing this draft is deep at the position.

Funny....in a season, the league might go from "devaluing" RBs to treating them like QBs in the draft.

Yep Jeanty will definitely be gone by 12 and Hampton will be gone by our 2nd pick. But honestly, we now have way way too many other needs to worry about such as CB

silly - no reason to go after tier 1 FA's - we need a few 2nd tier and a few 3rd tier guys to fill it out, and a good draft
We need starters at the following positions: DE, CB, LB, RB, WR. You could argue we need starters at these positions as well: DT, G. That's 5, possibly 7, positions we need to fill.

This team desperately needs to sign good starters at these positions, not special teamers or role players. Obviously, not every position needs a star or a veteran, but the front office's goal should be to sign the best players possible and field the best team possible through both free agency and the draft. Instead, their approach is to simply field a team and do it as cheaply as possible.

two weeks is way too late. that's when you get into 3rd tier FAs and those who are injured. good ones get signed. talks already had been happening. how is it that Lewis signed in a few hours!? come on now.
Handwringing season in full affect. Gotta love it.

I am a little surprised to see how calm cowboy fans are. To not do anything on the first day of free agency (legal tampering - whatever same thing) to help this team which is very depleted of real talent is straight up ludicrous and a slap in the face to fans of this team.
The ownership/management of this team is so inept and bad - it's crazy. I have no words that can describe how bad the Jones are.
Honestly, this is the worst kind of love hate relationship. I mean, I have been a cowboys fan for about 45 years or my entire life and I always will be but at the same time the Jones deserve to have this franchise crumble to the ground to nothing and for what they're doing to us fans with the disrespect we deserve to want that

So yeah like an internal warring faction, you got one part wanting to see the whole thing blow up in their faces for what they're doing but another part wanting only the best for what has been lifelong relationship ugh

I’m not as upset about the inactivity on Day 1. it’s the inactivity in getting people signed they KNOW they want.

Parsons could have been signed a long time ago and it has already cost them at least $5 million a year, which means they are losing cap space every day they wait.

That’s not “handwringing”, it’s the sound of a fan base tired of incompetence at the top.

Kinlaw isn’t a JAG. Poona ford signed for less than 10MM AAV. Also not a JAG.

We suck at FA and it shows every single year.
As I said earlier, this years DT room is going to be the same as last years….minus Golston, plus a 5th round draft pick.

They will be calling old fat vets off the couch in August that will play cheap….again.

Whatever else they do or don’t do is irrelevant if I’m not very wrong.

I always approach signings as a 3 way corner. Owners, players, agents. When a deal isn't being done I view it as one of those 3 at least aren't on same page.

There were people complaining there was no signing 3 hours into the day. Yes there were a small handful of teams making moves in those few hours, most vastly overpaid. It's to those the hand wringing comments are addressed.
.
And you know that Bob, it's why you prefaced your reply with not being upset at day 1.

Washington just got Laremy Tunsil from the Texans. So there's that.
Washington is building a football team while Ol Jerry and Son are clowning around,Parsons was ready to sign and you could have got him done earlier and at a better price. Why wait it makes no sense he is more expensive now.

Stephen does not love the cowboys the way Jerry does. When Jerry dies, Stephen will sell the team. So for now Stephen is trying to pocket all the nickels he can

you forgot RB

2/3rds of the league hasn’t repeated the same plan for a decade in FA.

Doesn’t it get tiring making excuses for them every single year only to have Jerry give you the middle finger?
I don't and am not making excuses. Merely pointing out the clear and obvious fact that it has not been long enough yet to pretend that what you are whining about has already happened.
