At least the Cowboys have youth on their side

If the cowboys were willing to reset the market , the deal would be done by now
They’re not willing to do that when he still has a year left. However, they may be willing to do it if he gets off to a great start during the season. It’s anyone’s guess what’s going through the minds of the Joneses. Everyone from the fans to many in the media are down on the Cowboys due to the amount of talent they’ve lost and their lack of activity in free agency. It appears they’re going to take their chances with the draft and hope for the best. If the season ends up in the toilet they might let Dak walk and start a complete rebuild in 2025.

Oh so you aren’t convinced dak is getting another contract here. Interesting.

I’m not as convinced as I was due to the fact that he still hasn’t been extended and we’re losing a number of quality players. He needs a solid team around him to be successful and I don’t see how he will be able to maintain his level of play or improve with the team we have currently. If he’s not extended by the start of the regular season and the team has a down year in 2024 the Cowboys could very well move on from him. They’re probably realizing they’re in a real bind trying figure out how to pay him, CeeDee and Parsons. Parsons contract alone will be astronomical.

Punters, kickers and long snappers are definitely exceptions to the rule when talking about average team age.
Very true....they aren't actually football players so they can still do their jobs well into their 60s

They’re not looking to rebuild. No one is looking to rebuild after a 12-5 season with a division title. They’re losing players because they can’t afford to keep them. If we were looking to rebuild we would be active in free agency. All the contending teams from last season are retooling in free agency except us.
So which is it?
Are you active in free agency if you're looking to rebuild, or if you're a contender?

We're not acting like the other contending teams.
We're losing players and not bringing on new players in free agency. Content with losing talent and not replenishing it. Sounds like a rebuild to me.

This fan sounds like he thinks they are.
If they plan on moving on from Dak at all, it's more advantageous to do it before the season through trade than simply cutting him or letting him walk after the season.
Looks like they're not working toward a successful season this year, so why pay top dollar to Dak for a tanking year?

The Joneses are looking past this season, trying to lock up three of their top players. Granted, it doesn’t look good heading into next season unless we nail practically all our draft picks in April but anything can happen. I remember how bad everyone thought the Cowboys would be in 2014. Some were picking them to be the worst team in the league. Even Jerry didn’t sound optimistic about the teams chances but we ended up having a real good season and won a playoff game. However, we had a terrific running game that season with Murray leading the league with over 1800 yards and 13 TDs. Our running game currently is one of our biggest concerns.

It’s hard rebuilding through the draft with only 7 draft picks so you have to add some young free agents to speed up the rebuilding process. Contenders are always active in free agency looking to add at least a couple of pieces that might put them over the top. It appears the Cowboys haven’t managed their cap well and can’t even plug any holes in free agency. They’re banking entirely on the draft to try and hold what’s left of the team together. They have a real dilemma on their hands.

Honestly, people have been saying this about the cowboys for years now. For years the cowboys have been one of the youngest rosters in the league.

It has never translated into future momentum as far as getting over the hump because the FO never adjusts their strategy. They take the same approach to the offseason the very single year. Which is why there is stagnation.

Being one of the youngest teams in the league is meaningless if it never leads to anything.
Our FO does a poor job of complimenting our youth with veteran FAs. That’s a problem that needs to change.

Aaron Rodgers and all those new free agent O-Linemen single-handedly boosting Jets to #1. LOL

Tampa Bay lost Brady and dropped to last. :oldcouple:

But being serious, I think this team needs vets. Vets who lead, mentor and know how to win the big game. Because the ones we have don't know.
We do need vets but what we really need are vets that are winners.

The only good thing so far going into the new calendar year is that the Cowboys are getting younger.

Before FA started, the Dallas Cowboys were the 6th youngest team in the NFL.

I'm pretty sure after FA we'll probably be closer to the top.

Now, I know getting younger doesn't always mean that the team will get better going forward but at least we're not old AND stuck with no money in free agency.

Imagine being the Dolphins right now. Old and broke.

82 year old youth at GM?

GM is the problem.

Youth is a sign of lack of experience. If all of your draft picks make the team by default and we typically also have 2 or 3 UDFA make the team every year, we should be very young.

That is also an indicator that your talent level sucks.

I know Jerry's marketing team, loves to make it sound like we find the best UDFA in the NFL every year and some how that is a good thing, while we constantly miss on our second round picks.

The way we are going this off season, we may have a record of 5+ UDFA make the team.
