At what point do we give up on the Romo-Ware-Witten-Garrett core?

This team being blown up isn't new for me. I have wanted this for the past 3 seasons. Crap ain't working. Period..

Then, you see a team that was 2-14 last season, in the matter of a damn year if that, is 4-0.. You figure out the rest.

you obviously haven't read the CZ reports about the inevitable demise of this franchise once we let Romo go. the 2000-2003 years has instilled a fear of the unknown in this fanbase. everybody automatically assumes the chad hutchinson years are right around the corner as soon as we drop this core. how many times have you heard "without romo we're 3-13." well so damn what...it's better than 8-8. give me the high draft pick damnit.

I said 'let him walk at the expiration...' And, obviously, the fear is that we'd be competing in an open market for a rare commodity and would have to pay a huge premium at that point.

It also would risk slighting your franchise player if you were dumb enough to let him get all the way to FA without a deal. It would be a colossally stupid move of the sort you'd only make if you were clueless as to the value and ability of the QB play you've been getting during the Tony Romo era.

my man you've got to get in touch with reality. romo's reputation is in the mud around this league, fairly or not. if romo hit the market nobody is breaking down his door to sign him. he would have gotten the exact same deal whether he played out this year or not.

Lol. No.

Why? You honestly believe we were in danger of either losing him to FA or paying a higher price? C'mon man.

Absolutely. And I'm really surprised that you don't realize that's exactly what would happen.

Coaching is the great equalizer in a parity-filled league.

There is a reason why teams like the Patriots, Saints, Chiefs and Broncos are undefeated.

It matters now, more than ever. Garrett simply is not the answer no matter how much people want to pretend he is.

Bingo!!!!! I was willing to give Garrett a chance to be just a head coach because he sucked trying to pull double duty as HC / OC. I had hoped he could become a coach who gets the most out of the talent he has but through 1/4 of the season it is obvious he is not the answer. We will be around .500 this year and will only make the playoffs if we win the NFC (L)East division with a near .500 record. We will more than likely be destroyed in the first round of the playoffs. I just hope Jerry realizes Garrett is a problem and makes a change next year and doesn't keep him around just because we probably make the playoffs by winning a pitiful division.

I would get rid of the coach before I dumped 2 HOFr's and a QB playing at a high level.

Where are you from?

Born and raised in AZ (Carson Palmer, 2 years/$16M). Now I live in the Bay Area (Oakland: Terelle Pryor, Matt Flynn, Matthew McGloin!) and SF (where, on local talk radio they're questioning trading Alex Smith and going with Kaepernick for the 2-2 49ers, much in the same way some Dallas fans are worried about Tony Romo). Why do you ask? And how are things on the Planet Where Franchise QBs Seem to Grow On Trees? :)

Didn't realize you were in the Bay-area. Was there for three years and moving back in the spring. We will have to get together so I can argue with you concerning your Garrett stance. How does Pier 39 overlooking the sea-lions sound?

What did he do in the biggest game of the season against the Commanders last year? I must have missed him in that game because I never saw him out there. Also, what did he do against the Chargers? I saw 1 tackle and 1 offsides from him.

What has Shante Carver, Ekubm and and Ellis do in big games? Did they even have a big game? They couldn't even help the team get into a big game.

Romo did not play great. Romo did nothing to put this team in the end zone. He took meaningless sacks, (throw it away dude) couldn't convert on 3rd downs, he didn't do anything special. Dez dropped a pass, maybe his foot would've been in bounds if he caught it, maybe not. Still a poor throw. Witten & Harris dropped passes, but I saw the Patriots cast of nobodies drop passes too.

This team, with Romo, with Ware, with Witten, with Garrett, needs to just go away. I don't care about how great they are/were, the fact is, these people can't win. What happened to the proud days when we didn't put up with this junk on the field?

Haha totally, throw it away when there are 3 guys in his face and he's still in the pocket.

Do you even watch the games?

Ware is the part of that foursome that continues to bug me.

Where was he Sunday? Backups just owned him.

We haven't won anything with them.

But...

Looking to 'blow up' that particular core would be symptomatic of why we cannot get over the 8-8/9-7 hurdle.

We haven't had a quality, reliable pass defense since '97-ish. Right now our QB rating is 106 and our QB rating allowed is 100. And that is with all of the interceptions in the first game and Lee's interception against Rivers.

You're not going to win many games with a 35-42, 401 yards and 3 TD's allowed pass defense.

It got to the point where in the 3rd quarter that Rivers and the Chargers had no inclination to run the ball. Just keep throwing. And with that pass defense if Rivers threw it 6 times in a row, he was scheduled to complete 5 of those passes for 57 yards.

I can understand the frustration, but we'll never get over the top if we can't field a better pass defense. And I don't see getting rid of Ware as the answer either. We been thru at least 6 D-Coordinators, 3 different schemes, etc. It's just not working.

I'm a bit further south, but I'm down when you're back. Perhaps it won't be an issue by the spring, though. One way or another :).

Cool, how far South? I have bounced around from Santa Cruz to Pacifica to Sausilito. Lived mostly in Palo Alto and Daly City.

Just north of PA, actually. Great, great place to live. You coming back for work?

No, but the wife is

She is going back to UCSF Medical Center in downtown SF.

If your North of Pacifica, I am sure you have seen the house up on the hill just outside there around the bend of the One(PCH). There is a 30ft 49er flag on the fence, rip it off for me one night :)

How many more years of this before we realize it's never going to happen for this core? Have some of you already come to this conclusion?

Just curious b/c we've changed a lot of pieces around these four but it always equals out to 8-8. Maybe its just not meant to be for these four in Dallas.

Ware was MIA yesterday until a timely offside. Witten with a key drop. Romo does not look like a 100M dollar QB. Garrett is still robotically preaching the process. Anybody else just sick of this **** with this core and ready to move on from all of it? I mean for crying out loud folks it's been a decade of this misery!

A heck of a lot closer to two Decades than just one, it's been 18 years and counting. 1995 has been a day or two ago. This core is done.
