Aubrey has missed 6 of his last 7 FG from 57+

I think some are missing the point. This is less of a knock on Aubrey and more of a knock on the person calling for the lengthy FGs. Even with a top kicker these remain low probability plays fir a variety of reasons.
50/50 with Aubrey. BUT, you cant really remove the field goal blocks. We need to do a better job blocking the swats, however he still has to send it at a lower trajectory to travel that distance.

There is definitely a time and place to take advantage of his leg. The end of the half vs Houston it was an obviously terrible call. Its different with no time on the clock or when your defense is performing etc.

Schotty’s decision to go for the 65-yarder before the end of the first half against the Texans was egregious. You can’t give them a short field to then turn around and kick a FG.

Mind-numbing
They are suppose to be kicks where there’s no time left. I think they had 30 seconds left or something crazy. I don’t care how much faith you have in Aubrey his kicks should be under 60 unless you have no choice. Gonna kill this guys confidence.

Yeah the field goal blocks are becoming an issue. That needs to be looked at as well as the kicks out of bounds.

He has 2 kicks missed. So saying his missed 6 of his last 7 while correct isn't telling the whole truth.

Nothing like getting outcoached. Again. We should be used to it by now.

Were forcing the issue with the kicks out of bounds. Hes being instructed to play it that way and most of the Texans game they had terrible field position because of it. My problem is its not automatic and there needs to be context for when you dont make the attempt. Same thing with the long field goals. Its difficult enough at distance, but you really need to block well for him to get the right trajectory on the ball.

This is necessary context:

“Ok let’s break this down two out of the last 3 were blocked, two of the misses were 65 and 68 (insane distances), and two were outside in freezing temperatures the only really bad miss on here was that one against Minnesota at home I’m not concerned”
Exactly.

I’m not blaming the kicker for blocking breakdowns.

In fact, those blocks could have also played a part in the process being rushed, leading to other misses.

If I’m ’pointing the finger’, I’m doing so at the special teams coach.

And the coaches need to know where and when to go for it and when not to.

Those kind of field goals have a very low percentage. We just got spoiled that he was hitting them early on, but there's no reason we should be kicking so many long field goals.

Much thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aubrey is fine. Quit nitpicking

I think the bigger problem is our head coach not understanding situational football.

The decision to attempt a near 60 yarder at the end of the first half vs the texans is a good example. That blocked fg turned into a six point swing.

If it had been with just a few seconds left, no problem, but with that miss, there was still time for Hou to turn it into an opportunity of its own. That was a decision not seeming to understand the situation.
No matter who your kicker is, a 55+ yd FG is a low percentage play. Every coach in the NFL should be aware of that, though it sure appears that we are not.

Funny how teams blocks our attempts (common theme now) but we can never block there attempts or them even miss wide right or left. Just sign Too Tall Jones now!

So, remove the two blocked kicks which aren’t necessarily his fault and he’s made 5 of his last 10 kicks from 57+ yards. Further, when you look at the 5 misses (non-blocked), they were from an average distance of 61.4 yards.

Gimme a break.
Well done.

If it lowers the Cowboys tendency to play for the long FG then this is a good thing.
