NFL.com's Gil Brandt ranked Auburn's Tre Mason as the draft's best running back.
Brandt isn't playing around with his evaluation, either: He continues to compare Mason to Tony Dorsett. "The Dorsett comparison had to do with Mason's unbelievable quickness -- he's the kind of back who can start and stop on a dime and leave you eight cents worth of change," Brandt wrote. Mason, who finished the season with 1,816 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns and was a Heisman finalist, received a third-round grade from the NFL's advisory board. "I would put him more around the second round. You would like to have a running back who's a little taller and heavier than Mason, but he's not a bad size for a running back, at about 5-foot-9, 205 pounds, and anyway, his speed makes up for whatever he lacks in size. It's also true that Auburn's offensive system helps players like Mason be productive, but I believe that his quickness and running ability will allow him to be very effective in whatever system he plays in," Brandt wrote. his short height will really help him; TD talked about how often the Defensive players could not see him until he was in the open and then it was too late. Also being that short means 205 or so is a really good weight; still strong enough to take some punishment.

I'm sold on him... Emmitt Smith said he was the best running back in the SEC and the more you look at the tape you'd tend to agree!

I like him, but what good is it taking a RB in the 2nd round if we 're barely gonna use him on the field.

No, but he can keep the clock running in the 4th if,IF used correctly. We need help on both sides of the ball.

What good is a RB when you call passing plays in the 4th quarter?

Of course because we wouldn't know talent if it hit us in the face. Missed on Chris Johnson, LeSean McCoy to name a couple.

The scouts had McCoy ranking as a 1st rounder, but the decision makers passed because they already have Felix and Barber.

People should keep this example in mind when getting over-focused on need.
