Eagles | Owens Fight Update
Sun, 06 Nov 2005 09:37:15 -0800
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Philadelphia Eagles WR Terrell Owens threw five or six punches at former defensive end and team ambassador Hugh Douglas during an altercation this week. One of the punches was described as a shot that would have done major damage if it had landed. The team has not made a decision on when Owens will return from his suspension, but several Eagles players said they find it hard to believe he will ever re-join the team.

:laugh2:

Why are we highlighting a part where he swung and completely missed.

That's what you consider whipping someone's ***?

Eagles sources confirmed before the game that Douglas, who retired earlier this season and is now working in the team's front office, exchanged words with Owens in the training room Wednesday and that both men threw several punches, none of which landed, before they were separated by several other players. Owens reportedly went into the locker room afterward and challenged anyone who was talking behind his back to take him on.

Douglas, who also had an angry training camp confrontation with Owens, confirmed that the incident occurred on an Eagles pregame radio show last night, though he did not offer any details. "It's not something you're proud of, so why should I glorify it?" he said.

That was the stupidest thing ever said on this message board because you obviously weren't in the locker room when T.O. and Hugh Douglas had this 'whatever you want to call it'.
:lmao2: :lmao2: :lmao2:

I was talking about how I review TO. How I come to the concluson of what I think of him. The other had nothing to do with it. I certainly don't get emotionally attached to disliking the guy like you do.

My point was that I know what the report was and I also know that anyone who has an emotional interest in the situation is not a good witness. Thus I didn't even bother paying attention.

At the end of the day I don't really care what happened between the two.

The Washington Post's sports page produced Mike Wilbon not Woodward and Bernstein. To intimate that the two are in any way shape or form similar is laughable. Its not quite as bad as referencing the janitor at the Rutherford Collider on particle physics because he worked in the same building as Lederman but its close.

What happened in Philly was a whispering that Dougles and T.O. exchanged actual blows(or least t.o. hit douglas)... not just words and when T.O. got through thumping Douglas's noggin he asked if anyone else on the team had a problem with him and wanted to handle it right now. Apparently he even looked straight at McNabb.

No one else stood up the plate.

I will say T.O is a total mess of a mental situation but I do not think what he has done is as bad as it gets portrayed in either instance. He forced his way out of Philly for one reason and only one reason: MONEY!
Here he was part of an entire WR corps that was annoyed Witten kept getting passes once he was clearly hurt and as such complained about the offense. The rumored meetings were hilarious because it was supposedly all t.o. except we now know it was with all WRs and Garrett called them himself. There is absolutely nothing to suggest T.O. has said anything that multiple other players stated. All 3 WRs wanted the ball more, Romo stated the offense needing work et al.

I can see the benefit of jettisoning Owens but let's be honest the media isn't going to stop making up crap until Dallas wins. And cutting Owens loose just may make it a heck of a lot harder to win.

And for all the talk of Owen's negative influence the rumors are ReW doesn't work hard. I'd say T.O. just might be the perfect example there.

I won't speak for anyone else, but there have been occasions when I've witnessed fights where one of the folks fighting would have a crazed look on their face and would look around at spectators of the fight. There's an saying, "You don't fight Crazy". 'Crazy', as in someone who's not all there in the head; but it is interesting to me how some reported accounts have Terrell Owens in a virtual standoff, in some sort of room also occupied by fellow NFL players who were so "intimidated" by Owens that they wouldn't dare lay a finger on him. Chuck Norris ain't got nuthin' on him. :)

Makes one wonder how these professional athletes can duke it out for sixteen Sundays a year, doesn't it?

He was advised not to sign the contract which the Eagles offered him. He ignored the advice and signed anyway.

I agree though. It was because of the money. The Eagles front office did not back down to Owens and conceded to his demands after paying him millions before he ever played a down. He acted an arse to get himself released from Philadelphia because he wasn't getting paid top 10 wide receiver monies per year, but he never cried once about being paid $9 million upfront in the form of a signing bonus either. If blame can be laid down, it can be placed at the feet of both parties, Jeff Lurie and Owens alike.

If things had been handled internally, the media dust up would have possibly been minimalized, but Terrell Owens wasn't satisfied with keeping things hush-hush. Discussing details of what he considered were problems with the offense publicly with Deion Sanders during an NFL Network one-on-one exclusive interview was neither attempting to keep in-house affairs private nor can his chronically near career long diarrhea-of-the-mouth be blamed on anyone else associated with the franchise other than Terrell Owens himself.

Not Patrick Crayton. Not Sam Hurd or Miles Austin. Not even Jason Garrett.

Terrell Owens and just Terrell Owens.

The media has been scruntinizing Dallas for decades. However, the level of media scruntiny has escalated not simply because the team has been winning, but because people couldn't keep their mouths shut. Manufacturing wins in the NFL is not an easy task, especially when you're playing the best teams which the league has to offer.

Either keeping quiet and selectively conveying information to the media is almost as easy as breathing, but one would think that there are numerous emphysema sufferers associated with the franchise by the sheer amount of nonsense that has consciously streamed out of Dallas during the past half year.

I agree. If it were only that simple.

Here is a copy and paste from Wikipedia that pretty much backs up my memory of the contract situation. Now please support your stance of how the contract wasnt the issue.
.

He knew the contract he signed. He just didn't wake up a year after playing his first year in Philadelphia and say, oh my God, I signed a bad contract last year?? So what changed? I'm telling you what changed! his relationship with McNabb, and it all started in the huddle when he was told to be quiet. After the game it was reported that they had to be separated, and this was the year they were in the Super Bowl before everything blew up.

Of course the contract was backloaded, much like many of the contracts they give their players. Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent is a poor example. They finished their contracts, and the Eagles chose not to retain them.

I'm not here to change your mind. You can believe what you want. I am just telling you I wasn't fooled from the beginning why things blew up in Philadelphia, and it wasn't money. It wasn't money in San Francisco. It wasn't money in Baltimore. It wasn't money in Philadelphia. And it wasn't money in Dallas, yet his immature behavior persists.

Of course I don't like him, and that's no secret. I was strongly against him coming to Dallas for what he could do to the locker room, and coaching staff. I wasn't wrong.
