Baker Mayfield vs Dak Prescott

Going in into this Browns game, i'm hearing more concerns for Miles Garrett and Nick Chubb,..than
what i'm hearing about the great QB Baker Mayfield, (once the No.1 overall pick in the NFL draft)

- But Baker's game seems so erratic and wild and so unstable that he's not a passing strength vs the better teams , he's not an established strength,..his mechanics are so shoddy- those fadeaway jump shot passes, ..he panics in the pocket and bails out too many times.
He just does not connect and involve his WRs. ..and he's an INT machine

People gripe abut Dak Prescott in Cowboys nation - but compare the No.1 overall pick in NFL draft in
Baker Mayfield vs a 4th round pick in Dak Prescott .

Who is the more established QB ? Which player involves their WRs in the pass game ?

maybe gong thru all of these OC's sets Baker back some,.but i have to wonder about his coachability
and poise and composure.
And Mayfield is struggling..then OJ Beckham is gonna struggle.

- And remember when WR OJ Beckham used to be a Cowboys killer ?
is anyone concerned about Beckham nowadays ? You would think with an No.1 overall pick QB
in Baker Mayfield that's supposed to be a might better advantage for OJ than aging Eli Manning,..

i frankly have not heard much from Beckham since he whined his way out of NY Giants ...

Waiting for the Dak detractors to chime in...3..2...1...

Right now Baker seems off or on. I think he is another QB that needs a big lead to do his damage. Still the key, get a lead, stop Chubb, make Baker play from behind.
As it sure would be nice to play with a lead for once, and not from behind. In order for that to happen, out defenses needs to step up right away. Not wait until the 2nd half.

This seems to be a theme the last 2 season, and starting out this one as well. Which means our offense also needs to score TD's on the 1st several possessions.

Baker had obvious weaknesses coming out and had no business going 1 overall.

At OU he showed a great ability to scramble and to complete an uncannily high % of passes but that was almost solely based upon passes under 10 yards (mostly tunnel screens and quick hitch type stuff) or deep stuff off play action where he had 4 star WRs facing secondaries they badly out-manned. He had no real targets in the NFL sweet spot of 10-30 yards.

He had compete and fight for sure.
But he also made things harder for himself at times with over the top insecurities.
He turned on Kliff Kingsbury who is the best QB coaching mind in recent NCAA history.
He ended up in the same offense most of his life (HS in Austin to Tech to OU) and was very well polished in it at OU.

His baseline athletic traits are actually below average and he was only a 3 star high school recruit that went the walk on route. (tho he's a rich kid so that's not really a huge story).
6 foot and a half inch at 215 pounds with a BMI of about 30.
4.84 40 time.

BUT he had some moxie and some quickness. He has enough arm if not truly plus. He is very comfortable with handling the ball and making play fakes.
He will take a hard hit and get up taunting the defense.
Lots to like there but he should have been a round 2 guy that sat a full year with lesser immediate expectations and went to a spread style/2 minute offense.

Baker played with better players/coaches around him then virtually every team he faced.
That always makes these things harder.
The NFL removes those advantages and asks you the QB to provide the difference.

Let's start a Dak thread for every QB ever drafted.

Yeah, that'd be cool.

YES, Dallas got a steal getting Dak in the 4th.

He's in his 5th year now and, by the very definition of the franchise tag requirements, is getting paid like a top tier QB.
Can we get over the draft position finally?

We made Donald into a HOFer. Can't imagine how good Mayfield will look.....
And in Week 7 Wentz looked like a bottom level QB against the Cowboys. People can pick and choose whatever game suits them to use as an example.

That said, we all know the Cowboys defense has not been strong, but Mayfield and the Browns are not Ryan and the Falcons or Wilson and Seattle … by a long shot. My guess is Mayfield will have a solid, but not particularly special, game.

Baker Mayfield had the lowest clean pocket rating last season of all the NFL QBs.

Let's hope it holds true when he takes the field Sunday against our defensive line.

I'm expecting that if our d-line lives up to their potential in that game, we shall win.

As the same token, let's also hope that our secondary has a better day than usual.

Nothing DAL does surprises me anymore. Boneheaded play after boneheaded play..

I can't tell if this is a serious thread or not

LOL -- I can vouch that it was on my part -- can't speak for the others but I suspect that most of the others were, also.
So, maybe we're all altogether kidding? Based on what we've all seen so far, I guess it does seem far fetched. :muttley:

I feel Baker has the talent to be a very good QB in this league but I'm not sure he'll ever reach it due to a few reasons.
1. Staff may never be good enough to coach him to get the best out of him. Almost feel like if he had a hardass coach like Parcells to keep him grounded it would do him better early on.
2. This is jmo, but I feel he's a guy who can be enamored by the fame/money and lose the passion to continually work on his craft
3. Browns curse is a real curse.
