Eagles Trading Carson Wentz to Denver Broncos....stay tuned! I am hearing major overhaul in Philly
Let me tell you....Ruggs is one thing because I knew people overvalued that 4.2 speed....but if you are trying to sit here and convince us that if they had the pick of Reagor and Lamb and they'd chose Reagor? Howie and his scout department have some huge issues. But I don' think that's the case. They always targeted Reagor because he was a realistic option. Most mock drafts had him going late 1st or early 2nd. Most cases he was ranked as the 5th or 6th best receiver in this draft. So realistically they knew they had a shot at him and not Ruggs, Lamb or Jeudy.I doubt CeeDee Lamb was on their board ahead of Ruggs and Reagor. Was he higher on other team’s boards? Sure...different teams are targeting different things. But Howie was speed obsessed in this draft. He’s been without it due to injuries for a couple years now. I don’t think Howie feels he missed out on Lamb. Some Eagles fans may feel that way, but that happens literally every draft when their team doesn’t draft who they think is best.
When Howie mentioned the price was too high to move up, he was referring to Ruggs.
Or just applying logic.
Wouldn't you agree that a deep speed threat is what they have been lacking? Howie got Jackson a year ago and saw in the first game what a deep threat could do. Then he lost him for the year. He went into this draft wanting to get his next Jackson. Ruggs was option #1, but that wasn't happening.
If you look at the WRs they took later in the draft you'll see the same speed factor - and also in the guy they acquired via trade from SF (Goodwin). Howie was absolutely speed obsessed.
It is hardly a stretch to say he didn't target Lamb. That wouldn't mean he didn't think he was a damn fine WR...but he had other ideas.
Some people apparently just look at the pre-draft rankings per position group, on various sites, and think every NFL GM has them ranked the same way. Cowboys fans can rest their head on their pillow at night and tell themselves that their team got Howie's guy. That's fine...I just don't agree.
Tell yourself whatever you need to while you're crying in your own pillow.
My team got the best receiver in the draft.
Your team overdrafted one and drafted a backup quarterback project. That's fact.
LOL...fact? You're usually a more reasonable poster than that.
You know as well as I do we have no idea what a draft class will look like until they've played a couple seasons. The only fact is you think you are right...and that's fine.
As are you. These lame excuses are out of character for you.
Tell yourself whatever stories you need to so you can feel better. Just keep that nonsense to yourself. The rest of the world knows better.
But you are misconstruing my point in the first place if you think I am making an excuse. I personally think Lamb is the better WR and will probably have the better career. My point was never about what I personally think....it was always about my perception on what Howie Roseman was thinking
Who cares? It's clear the guy was wrong about it. In which case, nobody cares what he was thinking, only that his thinking was clearly flawed.
I'll give the guy credit for having done a lot of things right. But I'll also criticize him when he clearly screwed up, as he did in this year's draft.
The fan in you forces you to want to give him some benefit of the doubt that the rest of the world isn't required to.
He's earned some benefit of the doubt with his trophy, but I don't blindly agree with everything he does.
I do agree with him making deep speed a high priority.
And again, I don't judge draft classes and make conclusions before the selected players have taken an NFL snap. So we won't agree on him obviously being wrong. Ask me in 2 years.
(God willing they even play)
It's sure looking like you do today.
Over acquiring the best receiver in the draft?
Certainly not when it looks this bad from the get-go. Dallas fans said the same thing when the Cowboys drafted Taco Charlton over TJ Watt. They gave that same wait and see line when that one clearly looked bad too.
We can agree on this.
I didn't agree with his 2nd round pick. I understand it from a salary cap perspective, but I still didn't agree with it.
I don't claim to know who the best WR in the draft is...it's all speculation at this point - they're just kids. Busts still happen all the time.
And yes, it's ok to have good feelings or bad feelings about a draft pick or class right afterwards. I have just learned through 40+ years of fandom not to draw conclusions from my immediate feelings on something. That's the only difference here.
Or Griffin. They are very bullish on the importance of the DL. They are loaded at DT and if you add Clowney or Griffin, to pair with Graham and Barnett, they are loaded at DE as well.
It still pisses me off that we have zero interest in Griffin. Putting your eggs in Smith/Gregory/Crawford (LOL) at RDE is really risky.
No need to wait two years on that.
Worse yet, that was the puck he refused to part with to trade up and get Lamb. A double whammy.
No, you're trying to talk yourself out of it because your team didn't get him. It's common among fans. Fandom overrides common sense and they feel compelled to lie to themselves.
But it didn't stop you on that second round pick. Interesting.
Well even though I think Lamb will be the better WR of the two (and time will tell on that), I certainly have no problem with them not wanting to spend a 2nd round draft pick just to move up a couple spots to get him. It is purely speculation on your part to believe it would’ve been worth it.
There were other quality wide receivers in the draft. Just because I don’t agree with our second round selection, it doesn’t mean that I would’ve rather them used that to move up in the first. I wanted them to keep their pics and get younger overall.
I have zero problem with them not trading up at the first.
Philly knows how to go for it (if this pans out).
We dabble around the edges. It would be funny if they got Clowney or Griffin on a friendly one year deal and we are trying to sell Aldon Smith and Tyrone Crawford as our RDE solution.
LOL.

But there is no scenario where Reagor was higher on their draft board than Lamb. That's just post draft talk that fans and teams like to do to save face.
