Baldinger's NFC East Report: First part is Dallas and Philly, also, is CD the best 88?

Not close. Irvin is top 10 all time. This early anointing trash is just to get clicks.
I just went and searched the top wr of all time and NONE of the lists had Irvin in the top 10. NONE.

The list from Gil Brandt did have both Hayes and Pearson above Irvin. For Brandt, Irvin is the 3rd best WR in Dallas history.

I mean thats not suprising, give you 2 guesses as to who Jimmy Johnson thinks the best WR in Cowboys history is...

Is CeeDee the best 88 ever in Dallas? No. Not yet. Great year and a half which is nice. If he repeats as All-Pro with a healthy Jefferson and Chase doing their thing that's significant to me but as of now our last memory of Lamb was of him pouting on the sidelines early in a playoff game. Not trying to fire people up like you'd think Pearson or Irvin would do but pouting. Not a good legacy moment. The book is still open. Let's see how he follows it up being the clear "guy" for DCs to scheme against.
Much easier to be a stud WR with a Emmit Smith run game and Alvin Harper on the other side of the field.

Who would Landry, the face of the franchise pick? Irvin would probably be third on that list.

Speculation about "what-ifs" ...fine.
However - in reality, HC Landry - along with GM Schramm, and PPD Gii Brandt - agreed to select Irvin with their 1st round pick \ 11th overall in the 1988 draft.
And the "Playmaker" lived up to their expectations.

probably as Landry would go with his guys, not saying its wrong or right just saying that opinion is a little biased...just like fans who hold the players that played in thier hey day are alwasy the best...

The previous poster who I was replying to said, "guess who Jimmy Johnson would pick". I just turned it around fully knowing both outcomes would be biased.

yes that was me who said that..maybe i missed what you were getting at.

I love Irvin as a player, but I'd have a tough time putting him in the top 10.

But yeah, CeeDee not on the same plane as Irvin yet. Not really all that close, either.

And I also really love CeeDee as a player. He's the only guy I would say is untouchable on this roster at the moment.

Baldinger started his breakdown of the NFL upcoming season with the NFC East and the Cowboys and Eagles.

He also makes the statement that with no disrespect, Cee Dee is the best to ever wear #88 in Dallas.

Ludicrous.

Tyler Smith is untouchable as well. He will be a foundation on this o-line for a decade.
Well technically we have no one else. So he kinda has to be default, which means he will get over paid as well.

Martin's time is running out. We don't have a OC. Smith fills 1 spot on the left side and Steele did not look great last year.

Good think we drafted a TE last year.

Imagine if Pearson or Irvin played in today's wide-open game where all the rules favor the offense.

Not taking anything away from Lamb, but it's easier than ever for receivers to put up numbers.

Then why pay him? Trade him for 2 more.

CD pouts when he doesn’t get the ball and checks out of games; we saw that against SF and GB. He has had one great year…let’s hold off the anointing oil for now. CD has a long way to go before he can be compared to Pearson, Irvin or even Dez.

That's from the usual anti Cowboys bias that kept deserving Cowboys players out of the Hall of Fame for decades, and also from the same mindset that Emmitt isn't the GOAT and that Aikman was a overrated.

It's nonsense.

Irvin is easily top 10, Emmitt IS the GOAT, and Aikman is a top 5 all time clutch playoff QB.

It's scary to think what guys like Irvin and Rice could do today. We are talking 2000 yard, 20 TD seasons.
