If Hamlin was better, we could sign him for a box of cracker jacks right now, because he's not even in the NFL.

Cut twice by the Ravens because he wasn't even good enough to be their 3rd string FS.. yea he's really good.

:laugh2:

No question he could be their 3rd string free safety, he would just cost too much to be a 3rd string free safety.

The Ravens didn't seem to think so, they signed him twice to that role. Cut him because they needed other positions filled. He was like our Jeremy Clark this year.

If that's true then you are saying it wasn't about whether he was good enough to be the 3rd teamer, it was about them deciding it was more important to fill other positions.

Ball might not be any good, but he's been a huge upgrade over Ken Hamlin. Can you imagine how bad we'd be with Hamlin still back there? Yech.

Who's with me? Or maybe the easier question, who's not?

I don't think Ball has been any of an upgrade over Hamlin. I think most of the time Hamlin was a better tackler than Ball, minus a few utter whiffs. Ball hasn't really shown the range I was expecting to see.

Jenkins can't be given a free ride on that play unless he had underneath zone only. CB's are supposed to go after the deflection in postion and with an arm coming around the waste of the receiver in order to make the tackle.

You can't just lay out for the ball in front of the receiver unless you know you're going to get it.

I think most people would agree that he's been a huge upgrade over Hamlin. The data sure says so, anyway.

What data? Maybe Ball has slightly better stats, but is there really an indication of a huge upgrade?

Yes. Absolutely, yes. Unequivocally, yes!

Twenty Ken Hamlins don't equal the greatness of one Alan Ball.

THE-O! THE-O! THE-O! THE-O!

Hamlin really wouldn't have done much better or worse - both take terrible angles, can't tackle, and have bad instincts.
