Romo's deal looks great compared to what Atl just gave QB Ryan (6yrs, $72 mil). I doubt if Bigg is getting as much money as Jake Long (6 yrs, $60 mil). Will McFadden's contract be bigger than Barber's (6yrs, $45 mil)? How will McKelvin's contract compare with Newman's?

Jamarcus Russell signed for 6yrs $68 mil. He picked up $10mil for one year and he didn't even sniff the playing field.

These rookies haven't even played a down yet. Historically, 50% of first rd picks are busts. These rookie salaries are ridiculous.

Evidently some vets are grumbling about this. All teams have a set amount under the cap and when a rookie is getting a good portion of the pie then there is less pie to go around

Gene Upshaw's logic that "It is better this way because veterans can use it as leverage" is horrible.

A player coming into the league as a first round pick is going to make more money than a 29 year old looking for a FA contract because the ceiling is alot higher for a rookie than a 29 year old. Its all about potential, not established vets anymore.

They need rookie slotted salaries IMO.

they said on espn or something that based on yearly salary for the next 6 years only Peyton Manning and Ben Rothlisberger make more than Matt Ryan. they also said how Matt Ryan makes more money than quarterbacks such as Tony Romo and Tom Brady.

And people still want to say we paid Barber too much? These kids haven't even played one snap and they are getting huge paydays.

Barber earned his money..part time or not!

What do you think Tom Brady is thinking right now???????

I found it funny but sad what they said on the NFLN that what you did in college seems to mean more than what you have done in the NFL. This is something that has to change. It is a crook to say it benefits the vets because it doesn't

I couldn't agree more.

Yes we did pay too much but then again the morons paying those rookies that kind of money are paying too much also.

From what the rumbles say this is one of the areas where Upshaw is all alone as regards the players. A lot of them resent all that money going to rookies and he better start listening to them or he is going to be out on his butt.

It'll change at the next CBA -- bank on it.

All the bad teams have to do is make it through the next couple of years without being in the top five, and then things will be fine.

BTW, don't go look at Adrian Peterson's contract. If you do, don't compare it to Barber's. :)

Ryan's getting almost $5M more then Romo & the Falcons don't know if he can become a legit starting QB. We Cowboy fans on the other hand know full well Romo is already a top NFL QB who only needs win a playoff game/SB for his greatness to be really recognized/accepted. Bet you before Romo's career ends in his late 30s, he have won several SBs & will be inducted into our ROH & the HOF as soon as he's eligible.
