The Jones boys bargain shopping DT at the last moment is a big reason this defense is soft. Go back and watch how bad they were blown off the line. Jordan Phillips should never see the field again. He was completely manhandled one on one all day. Pushed back 10 yards on one of the TD's. When you have atrocious d tackles then nothing else matters on defense. Micah and Diggs are useless so why pay them? Until the Jones boys understand how important the line of scrimmage is on defense expect to see a soft Cowboys defense when they get punched in the mouth.
On any decently run team, one of those DT's would be getting his walking papers. But we aren't one of those teams.

...... it's a jones bubble and the air is always filled with the stench of false hope.

Lack of DT's is a problem, but all these outside zone runs at Parsons has killed this team for years. He never sets the edge and always gets caught up in the wash. Linebackers also struggle to get off blocks. There is a problem when you see corners needing to make the tackle.
Yup and this is why I was talking about the front 7 before the season - no DTs and questionable LBs.

I've been saying it for a while now - in almost any sport - if you wanna have a good D, you have to be strong "up the middle"

Where is our weakness? - straight up the middle - no DTs - Older MLB - and an extremely average FS in Hooker - when was the last time we've seen him make a play on the ball in back end?

Thats on the D side, on offense we have 2 rookies starting - where they might look pretty good but they still rookies and at the 2 most important positions on the line, Martin is showing his age and Steele hasn't looked the same since the injury.

And do we even need to discuss the RBs.

This team has issues...

How many times do I have to tell this board that size at DT doesn't matter, it is about mobility and the ability to penetrate and get off of blocks.

Since the Rams playoff game, this board has opined for massive 1T players independent of their movement skills...well, here you go. This is the defense you people have been asking for.
Is someone disputing that? I didn't see anyone.

There are a few who throw out the size thing at NT, but only a few.

I know you have been calling for investment in the DT position for at least 12-15 years. :flagwave:
Funny thing is, if we would've been short in the LB dept, I'd have been calling for LB's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The biggest problem is that the DT position is the most important position on D, and Jerry refuses to emphasize it.

We are at All-In on 3 players to hang out at the rim.

Possibly, but every good D starts w/ good DT play. If you don't have that, you simply will not have a good D.
I agree there. I've been preaching the trenches all summer long and when your idea of addressing the trenches are two rookies on one side of the ball and 36 year olds on the other side.....you have an issue.

Disagree. Although he has made some questionable decisions, he has been at the head of a turnaround for a team that hadn't won a playoff game since 1991.....and his Lion just went to the NFC championship game last season and almost won

This team has taken on his identity and is ascending....straight up.
Yeah but the turn around also coincides with ownership changing as well as them having much better scout department. So I don't know how much Campbell deserves there.

You know guys, this reminds me of those times when the Jones regime wouldn’t draft or bring a quality safety for YEARS. We had Hamlin who was mediocre at best but couldn’t tackle, then some random guys like Alan Ball, Abraham Elam, Heath (oh my lord) and some other 6-7th round picks. Heck, remember Showers? He was a QB and they tried to make him Safety.

Again this is all Jones and their f… ideas..

Edit: Forgot Byron Jones, he was horrible at safety and good at cb, but yeah Jason Garret…

They adopt strange, arbitrary attitudes towards certain positions and have to be beaten into submission before they abandon their stubborn stance.

I often say that the Jones' prefer being right over being great...despite lacking proof of any actual ability to achieve that goal.

They were that way about the OL until Jerry needed Romo to renegotiate his contract and Romo refused unless he took a 1st round OL. Fredsy.

Wow. Look at this. :55 second mark
Your 2nd level has absolutely no chance when the DL is getting destroyed like this. Unreal....

Two linemen ended up on their behinds, smh, this is alarming, every team will run it down our throat if nothing changes, this might be an all time bad defensive year in the making.

I would really consider throwing away future draft capital to find out someone that could help this defensive line, even if its a loser deal, just to save face for this franchise.

First two games I have watched Diggs play are like his play in the contract year. Afraid to make contact and zero intensity. Micah is still doing his Jaylon impersonation of running around plays, but eventually makes his way to the scrum...if the guy with the LAC was our coach, I assure you this lazy play would not have happened. Instead we get to look at MM being dumbfounded, as if he's seen his ghost
