They adopt strange, arbitrary attitudes towards certain positions and have to be beaten into submission before they abandon their stubborn stance.
I often say that the Jones' prefer being right over being great...despite lacking proof of any actual ability to achieve that goal.
Their lack of belief in the importance of the DT position is just mind numbing. I don't get it and what makes it weird is that they have literally watched their team get bullied for years at DT and they just don't seem to care. Oh, they took Mazi, but he was a risk pick and after he struggled as a rookie, why wouldn't you then get yourself some insurance at the position this offseason?
They have no plan. They just try to accumulate players and that's it. They don't have a philosophy other than hope their draft picks turn into stars that warrant a second contract. That's it.
Nothing crystalizes this lack of a philosophy/plan more than the RB spot. Go back to 2014, Murray was a key cog in that team. But when FA came, Jerry and Stephen made their offer and said they could not go beyond that because their research showed the lack of return in investing in the TB position, that TBs wear down faster than other positions, etc. Then the 2015 season happened. And note, it wasn't because their RBs stunk, it was because the QB got hurt. Nevertheless, suddenly TB was uber important again so they used the 4th pick in the draft on one. Then, despite saying a few years earlier that overpaying for a TB is not wise given the wear and tear on the position, they got bent over a barrel by Elliott and paid him the largest contract in NFL history for a running back. They deemed RB so important that they had to sign their guy to that big deal.
Fast forward to now, they have one of the cheapest RB rooms in the NFL. How do we go from don't overpay/invest in RBs to then invest and overpay for RBs to now we don't want to spend on RBs? I'll tell you how - have an owner and a son who are stooges.
