I disagree, respectfully, Freeze. We can't wait, we can't continue to develop (well, we can, but that's not my point here). We have developed a potential juggernaut as it stands right now, we must make a splash signing, a single splash signing that augments our draft and roster and fills a hole in the front seven. A signing that puts us over the top.

Continue to grow through draft, but one key, big signing would be awesome for the club.

It would, but I wouldn't count on that. This team - and Stephen in particular - plans on building through the draft. And thus far, I can't disagree that his strategy is working.

If we get Jaylon, we are the class of the NFC and can focus purely on DE and even CB. He would shore the hell out of our D. I've never considered him, Irving, because at this point he seems too good to be true.

I have all the faith for this kid, tho. And he's always in the back of my mind. Migosh if we get this kid. Holy moly.
I believe he will play this season........next season isn't even a question in my mind. He will be ready to practice all off-season and will be stuck to Sean Lee. Jaylon has to be my favorite player (that hasn't played) ever. I can't wait to see Jaylon and Lee on the field at the same time. Add in a legit edge rusher.......league should be scared

I definitely don't see it in free agency. Too many guys they want to keep to be adding huge contracts to it. The plan seems clear to build through the draft, but recent misses and mistakes at defensive end make that spot a huge priority, and one that I personally would be willing to pay considerably in draft equity to correct.

We missed on Gregory. I guess Tapper is chillin by his pool. Its a huge priority, and it needs to be addressed.....but I'm not willing to do a Giants move to just look like I've fixed a problem. We could (very likely) fire Tony, try to bring in some guy who is a JAG. I would rather keep Tony on the bench then pay some JAG too much money.

I was hoping they would let Calais Campbell go a few years back to no avail.

What I'm saying is this, we look back on guys like Charles Haley added at the right time. Reggie White to the Pack. Things like that just don't happen everyday. We even tried with Hardy. I hope it happens, just don't expect it to happen just cause we have the money to spend on the guy.......I would rather sit Tony on the bench then have some mediocre guy to basically replace him.

Back to topic, Church and Wilcox can be easily replaced in the draft. Anything big, all we can do is pray it comes our way.
Campbell is available this year. Don't know if they let him walk

I'm not either, and I've mentioned that several times. And I don't think the Cowboys would either. Too many guys they want to keep now and in the near future.

That's why I have said that what I wouldn't pay in cap and free agent dollars, I would pay in draft equity and picks.

In my opinion, they've scouted and identified good pass rushers in the draft quite well. Unfortunately, so have other teams and the players were drafted before the Cowboys could. I'd make sure that didn't happen again if I found one I really liked.

Fair enough, I'd be willling to forego a splash signing if we traded up to the mid first round for a stud MLB/DE. I still am steadfast, Stash, that we need to be a player of some sort during this upcoming free agency period.

He is but hes 6-5 265. He has good size. Hardy was only 5 pounds heavier.

That's a great point, and we could still use a stud, olb like Jones, even in his natural roll. I'm gonna check out the big name outside edge rushers and middle lb's and report back here who looks juicy :)

Ok, but, much like this offseason, I'd prepare to be disappointed. I see them signing a veteran 'bridge player' for a $2-3 million salary than any flash.

Well i see their is talk in here about trading up to get a DE. look up Takkarist McKinley. He is getting comparisons to Demarcus Ware. Or we could trade away our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks (maybe more) for Myles Garrett. He may slip down to 5th or 6th pick. Their is a small chance Carl Lawson slips to our pick due to his injury history. He has stayed healthy all year but he is kinda injury prone. Talent wise he is probably the 2nd best edge rusher in this years draft.

Randy, how do stay on top of top college talent? A website, or are you just a college prospect aficionado/college football nut?

You should check down in the Draft Zone every once and awhile. some good posters putting up articles about talent almost every day. Especially Bodi. I have no idea how he is always finding the articles he finds. ChrisinArizona is great as well. I do have a few webstites i check often tho. They give u names in a ranked order and i look them up.

Care to share the websites you use, Randy? And i will take your advice with the Draft Zone. There are some gems of a poster on this board, it seems every Zone has its own set of gems. Like niches within a niche :)

Well your most basic one is CBSsports. find their nfl draft area. they rank players in every position and change their rank just about every week depending on performance. 2nd i use is walterfootball position rankings. they dont give u nearly as many players but they highlight main draft targets and gives u a nice write up about every player they rank. Then drafttek. They dont really do a great job of rankings during the season but they give u many names to look up. Then nfldraftscout. They do a good job of ranking up and coming players before the others sites do. its the site i use to find hidden gems and senior season risers. They change rankings very quickly.

I just checked and Chandler Jones is a free agent. He is pro bowl level edge rusher but I'm not sure if Arizona let's walk but a big name is available.
The Patriots have been playing a 4-3 the past few years so Jones had to have been a DE there; although, I think the Pats scheme might be a mix of 4-3/3-4.
