Don’t forget about Chauncey Golston at 3-tech. By the end of last year he was playing well. Quinn noticed and started giving him more snaps at the end of the season and in the playoffs.
He is not real quick for a DE but he is very quick for a 3T DT. He has always been stout against the run (he played some DT at Iowa as well) and he still was as a 3T in Dallas. He weighs 290 (at the end of last year) and has great movement. He is probably as quick as Kancey and has way more length, which he uses well. And we all know how much Quinn loves length. In the last game against Washington Golston was giving some of their OL problems. He had some good penetration in the playoffs as well.
If there was a 3-Tech in this draft that was 6-5, 290 lbs. and was stout against the run, people would want to draft him.
I’m not saying Golston is the next Aaron Donald, but I think fans are really sleeping on him. I think Quinn likes him a lot and he was real patient with Golston’s switch to DT. By the end of last year it looked like Quinn’s patience was starting to pay off… and his usage went way up.
After another training camp as a 3T, I expect continued improvement out of Golston. I think he’ll rotate with Odighizuwa and in passing situations, they’ll have both Odighizuwa and Golston at DT.
People are completely forgetting about him.
