I am guilty of "the versus thing" but not due to lack of interest in the films. I'm interested in all of the movies without exception. My versus thing focuses upon comparative quality and quantity between movies produced and based on the two separate comic groups/universes.

As I've mentioned previously, Marvel has been kicking DC's big screen butt in this aspect. The butt-kicking would have been even greater if not for DC offerings involving Batman and Superman--in particular Batman (thank goodness for you Christopher Nolan). What's refreshing is movies like this one coming out that help DC's comparison status. But DC still has a long way to go towards showcasing even a small portion of their multitude of characters to movie audiences.

Think about it for a moment. Wonder Woman is going on a hundred years and she FINALLY is getting big screen treatment. She's one of the big three of the DC character universe. It's practically criminal that it's taken this long to finally (fingers crossed) get that mistake corrected. I always thought I was critical about matching the right actors to characters but I have discovered that my expectations fall short by comparison. :muttley:

I don't think DC has as much catching up as we think.... quantity-wise. Yes.
Quality-wise. Maybe not.

I think this movie and justice league movie and WW movie has the opportunity to leap frog into the race.

Marvel have launched so ho hums and stinkers.

WW yeah ... A long time in the making. Just get it right. :)

WW ... I like them bigger not smaller lol.... With some exceptions lol

I would not be surprised in the least if all three--Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman--knew their respective secret identities by the movie's conclusion. Man of Steel established the non-clueless precedent by having Lois Lang logically decipher Kal-El's secret identity in short order. The world's greatest detective will probably figure out Kal-El's secret just as quickly in my opinion. And it would be equally unsurprising to me if Diana reveals her other persona to Superman and Batman. DC made the Amazon Princess' identity known to the world a long time ago. I think the movie may start out with her being a mystery but will end with announcing who she is to the world also.

Agreed on Lois in mos. Knowing.

Disagree about being by the end of this movie.

Bruce has seen superman already. As soon as he meets Clark.... He should know.... That's what I mean??

Now THAT'S what I ******* talking about...

Sorry @cml750 but I (finally after this trailer) have the feeling it's going to be another Man of Steel all over again, so don't worry about buying tickets for the movie or renting the video down the road. :( Regrettably, I'll take the hit for the forum and tell you how much it sucks when it debuts this March.

You do that for me DallasEast. :muttley:

I'll go ahead and be the minority here...it looks cheesy.

Feel the same way.

Thought the trailer was poorly done, honestly.

Kind of a microcosm of how the DC approach has been-- "let's rush everything before this comic book thing runs out of steam."

I will still see it.

I'm not really into comic book movies. I used to read comics all the time. I like comic book movies that focus on one character and try to introduce non-comic book fans to him. Like how Batman/Iron Man/Spiderman/etc came to be, what they do, who are their biggest foes, etc. Lately, there have been all this movies that throw 20 different heroes into one movie. I don't get it. I thought this was supposed to be Batman vs Superman. So what is Wonder Woman doing there? And one unrelated thing. Why do superheroes wear costumes and who designs them? You never see them getting their costumes made or picking them up from a costume shop. I guess in the Nolan Batman films there was one scene where Bruce receives a Batman costume in a box (I think it was from Morgan Freeman). Also, in Batman's case it makes sense because he's trying to conceal his identity since he's a well known bachelor. In Superman's case he's not even wearing a mask. What's the point of putting on the shiny suit if we can still see your face? And don't you work at a newspaper? One of your coworkers is gonna snap a picture of you when he's covering the story.

Starting with Sups....

"From the original story from the Golden Age, Superman's suit was made from the cloths and blanket that he was wrapped in when he was put in his rocket when he left Krypton and was sewed together by Ma Kent. This was used as an explanation as to how Superman's suit still remained undamaged when bullets hit it or how it never caught on fire. This was used multiple times in the movies, cartoons, and TV-shows.

In some issues (comics), Superman needed to use different suits for different occasions. Sometimes for radiation, space travel, and many other reasons. Some of which are:

The Red and Blue Suits

Blue/Red Containment Suit: When Superman's powers evolved to the point that they become part of the Electromagnetic Spectrum, He needed a special containment suit to hold him together as well as keeping his new powers in cheeked. When Superman's powers returned back to normal, the blue suit had been given use to other characters, namely the Strange Visitor and even Livewire."

The complete title of the movie is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. "Dawn of Justice" = Justice League. The Justice League was formed to combat threats that any individual superhero could not (easily) defeat on their own.

In my opinion, the question isn't necessarily what is Wonder Woman doing there but why are Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman the only Justice Leaguers seen in the trailers? I'm okay with not putting too many of the original members in the first film though. Attempting to fit too much material into a movie has crippled many a film.

Wonder Woman is the perfect person to dish out discipline.

Side topic question: I wonder if the movie's producers will wimp out and go with the invisible plane instead of allowing Wonder Woman to use her power of flight? Maybe they will allow both. She could use a jet to transport people and fly without mechanical assistance to fight, etc.

We'll see if the producers are courageous enough not to go retro. Wonder Woman has been flying solo without a jet since the mid-80's after the Crisis of Infinite Earths story ended. The added flexibility allowed her to tackle Superman-like feats. They had greatly increased her strength Post-Crisis also. I'll be giddy if they showcase her flight AND super strength abilities.

That's funny... Was thinking about this a while back.
The plane was corny with Lynda carter.

I don't know if I want then all flying though.
I think if they create a concept out of the box ... The invisible plane could work.... Ie. Something where she gets into then it cloaks out.... Or... The angle of the prism effect and light actually making it appear invisible .... But it's not.

Diana, Kal-El and Bruce (via Batplane) fly all over the place in the books. All three have been seen flying throughout cartoons and animated movies for a long time. Now the idea is for men to continue flying as they have for years but the woman gets grounded unless she takes off in a peek-a-boo plane? Sounds chauvinistic. Just kidding. :p

They would not be creating a concept out of the box. The invisible plane would be awesome given the CGI technology of today but it's irrelevant to me. It's an established visual prop that's thirty years out of date. She didn't need it after the mid-80's when DC re-imagined her character being "bestowed" with the power of flight by the Greek Olympian Hermes. It would be a copout for the producers to retrofit any part of Diana's character back to the 1970's and earlier. The character should reflect what it is today and has been for over three decades.

It would be a mistake not dissimilar to the rehashing of the Superman II storyline in Superman Returns over 25 years later. They should remain as true to the current Wonder Woman comics character in this movie as Christopher Nolan was for Batman during his film trilogy and Zach Snyder was for Superman in Man of Steel. No tinkering please. Remain honest and let her be who she is now. If they're intentionally backsliding on Diana, they should have simply slapped 62-year old Lynda Carter back into her 1979 Wonder Woman outfit and cast her in the movie instead of Gal Gadot. /rant

Understood. I don't mind of they break away from comics though. Gotham is doing a great job doing that.

Disagree, it would be out of the box on how they present the whole concept. ;-)

Again. Deviating. I don't mind.
I enjoyed superman returns.

Uh, mom I like to find woman? No thanks. She can be momma. Lol

Interesting. I was real slow (ignoring it to be completely honest) giving Gotham a chance but I became a solid fan once I started watching the show. In what ways do you see Gotham breaking away from the concept of Batman's world as seen in his comics titles like Detective Comics or Batman, various graphic novels, etc.?

I'm curious how other fans see the show. I think the show has shown the evolution of Batman's psychotic villains really well, especially Penguin whom I think has been developed excellently. Some of the psycho acting is a little over the top but I give most of the character presentations a lot of leeway because of their pathological nature. I absolutely love the acting performed by the actors for Alfred, Cat and Fish (Jada). My only issue with the show--what I would call a deviation--ties directly in scenery presentation. It's sometimes too cartoony, like out of the Arkham games or the movie Batman Begins. Some of the backdrops like the precinct house looks like the layout I have played in the games! :)

Other than that, I'm really taken with the show. The city of Gotham birthed the most vile, reprehensible yet usually human individuals in the DC universe. Many of their villainous deeds mimic real-life heinous criminal acts. For me, the show has done a great job constructing an atypical environment that ultimately creates the balancing force for good known as Batman.

No comment about Superman Returns. cml750 may be reading this... Just kidding cml750. :p

I thought it was confirmed Aquaman & Flash would make an appearance?

Hopefully not too extensive, kind of defeats the purpose otherwise.
I agree at this point. The classic comics storyline had many heroes fighting Doomsday with Superman paying the ultimate sacrifice stopping him. I feel every thing would mesh together much better if DC had already established the other heroes in previous movies. If the cameos are extensive, I see the newly formed alliances (or battles) between the four newcomers and Batman/Superman working awkwardly...

The Flash runs in out of nowhere. "Where the hell did you come from?" Aquaman saves someone from drowning. "Who are you Baywatch?" Cyborg pounds Doomsday with sonic rays. "Great. Who invited Tin Man?"

I still say Marvel got the character framework for The Avengers movie blueprint right.

Yeah I love the show, I give it a pass on some of the things you take issue with.

I love the police headquarters! Lol

Well, a lot of what I know about deviations are reading comments from other geeks online lol

Kringle is dead
Joker is dead.... Although they fluff "the idea" of the joker has been seeded. Maybe a real joker comes along and it wasn't him.
Galavan angle as real backstory to Wayne controversy/death/issues.
Dumas clan instead of shadows.

The way the villains start their birth/rise with/during Gordon start/rise.
Is it cannon? Or some version of new? 52?

I defer to you :)
