Bears cheated

With 54 seconds remaining before the half the Refs call a timeout for a measurement. The Bears are about a foot away from a first down. When the Bears break the huddle they go and line up on the ball. At this point the center cleverly moves the ball forward about a foot. At this point the ball is beyond the first down marker without even snapping the ball. Cutler then recieves the snap and dives forward for a 6 inch gain. If the Bears hadn't cheated and moved the ball forward a foot the Bears would have been short of a first down by six inches.

Dude, it actually happened.

It might not have been a yard but the C was lined up well past the original spot.

Wow!

yeah, it happened. This was mentioned yesterday in a thread with the Roy Williams non-called forward progress, but was shouted down because the masses were too busy commiserating.

Even the announcers noticed it and said something about it. I don't think that was the difference in the game by any means, but I'm surprised the officials didn't see it. No I'm not.

They spot the ball on the sideline and basically count off chain links in order to accurately spot the ball in the center of the field.

The blue line is correct, IMO.

You can see where the ball is snapped from.

Buck even says "Looks like the ball is already passed the line" or something to that effect.

I'm sorry but that's smart football. Little shady but that is a damn smooth move and it worked for them.

I bet you didnt know that all sorts of shady, nasty, ugly, low down dirty things happen in the trenches? its true.

Doesnt matter what bad **** happens in the trenches, as long as you dont get caught.

That is either offsides, or illegal formation as the WR is off the "LOS" nobody is covering the tackle on that side.

I think there's two TE's next to the LT. One on the LOS, one off.

I just can't get over that move.

If they get caught, it will be how much of a penalty? I would assume it would be unsportsman-like conduct but even then, they would be left with a long FG.

Shady but smart. Really smart.

After Buck said that, he was reminded that the Cowboys got screwed and did not mention it again after the play. Imagine if the Cowboys pulled off something like that. He would have been all over it throughout the game.

This was one of the more important plays of the game. They scored 3pts thanks to the conversion. If we got the ball back, then we would have had the ball back with 50 seconds and 2 timeouts left. Enough time for a FG. Instead of being down 20-14 at the half, should have been 17-14 or even tied at 17-17.

Then again, the game should never have gotten to that situation. This team sucks.

How about dumb football by our defense and coaching staff. Never seen anyone get away with such highway robbery. :banghead:

I have no life, so here's the clip.

Sneaky move. He gets up over the ball entirely too far, picks it up and places it a foot or more forward. Surely refs watch for this stuff. Good for them for getting away with it.

Wow. Ayy props to him for getting away with that. All I can do is laugh at it at this point lol. Sucks it happened against us but if Gurode had did it i'd give him props for a smart move.

Even if you think it was clever. It needs to be brought to the attention of the league. That's a penalty and its been called for far less ball movement. You're only allowed to reposition it.

They need to go back to Dallas line both teams up and run that play again.
