i am probably in the minority, but i think that's way too much for peppers.

let's see if he consistently plays to his potential after $40mm guaranteed. color me skeptical.

Wow. What a steal Denver would get if someone would take their problem child for the #6 overall pick.

Looks like McDaniels picked up a little more than offensive prowess during his time in New England. Guy knows how a swindle a team out of a pick, too.

The amount of money they just gave him shows that the GM and HC are in desperation mode they have to win and win now to save their jobs. They are over paying for Peppers out of desperation.

Yet the Bears are still going to be a terrible team next year

What's it going to be then, eh?

If Seattle signs Brandon Marshall to the offer sheet, Broncos would have seven days to match -- or get back the draft's sixth overall pick.

Adam_Schefter

Filed to ESPN: Seattle is strongly considering signing Broncos restricted free-agent WR Brandon Marshall. A huge move.
That is a very high draft choice for Marshall.

I assume that they cannot trade San Francisco's choice, so this would be the sixth choice in the draft for Marshall, who McDaniels probably wants gone anyway. Not bad at all.

If they can solve their offensive line issues, they will be very competitive in that division, particularly if Favre does not return.

Panthers say goodbye to Jake Delhomme, $12.5 million

Todd Archer/Reporter Bio | E-mail | News tips
Jake Delhomme was cut by Carolina and it brought just about everybody to tears in Charlotte, from Delhomme to GM Marty Hurney to coach John Fox.

Delhomme did a lot of great things for the Panthers, leading them to a Super Bowl appearance a few years ago. The Cowboys actually had him in for a visit in 2003 but Jerry Jones told coach Bill Parcells that he wanted the coach to work with Quincy Carter and Chad Hutchinson for a year.

Delhomme ended up with the Panthers and the Cowboys eventually found Tony Romo.

But part of me wonders if some of those tears shed by the Panthers had to do with the fact that Delhomme is still owed $12.5 million guaranteed from a deal he signed last off-season with $20 million guaranteed?

Delhomme had a brutal year in 2009 with eight touchdown passes and 18 picks before his season ended with an injury. It also allowed Carolina to get a look at Matt Moore, the former Cowboy training camp legend the Panthers have now tendered with the first- and third-round offer.

The Panthers are willing to eat $12.5 million on Delhomme but the Cowboys will not eat about the same total of guaranteed money on Roy Williams, who is due a $9.5 million bonus here between now and March 20.

Let the Bears spend all their $$$$$$$$$$$ on a DE that plays about half the time. Good for them. Without an oline and any WR's they are still going to stink.

The deal is done, and the biggest free agent of the 2010 off-season is going to Chicago: Julius Peppers is a Bear.

Although the team hasn't formally announced it yet, ESPN reports that a six-year deal is done. Adam Schefter reported that the Bears are expected to pay Peppers $40 million in the first three years.

The Bears will be expecting big things from Peppers, who has 81 sacks in his NFL career, which began in 2002. That's the third-most in the NFL during that time, behind only Jason Taylor and Dwight Freeney.

For the Bears (who also signed Brandon Manumaleuna and Chester Taylor on a huge first day of free agency), it's a sign that they're serious about winning, and winning now. After the disaster that was the Bears' 2009 season, that's a sign the fans of Chicago needed to see.

Julius Peppers-DL- Bears Mar. 5 - 3:03 pm et

Bears agreed to terms with DE Julius Peppers to a six-year contract that includes $40 million in the first three years.

Chicago, as expected, beat Philadelphia and New England to the punch with a deal believed to be in the $12-14 million-a-year range. A five-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro, Peppers has averaged over 10 sacks a year in his eight-year career and has 25 in the past two seasons. Peppers has less wear on his tires than most 30-year-olds, but the odds don't favor him finishing the contract. Still, the move looks strong on paper for a team that needs to win now for head coach Lovie Smith to keep his job.

good for the Bears. Hope they win something in the next 3 years because no draft picks + high paid FA's = small window of opportunity

The Bears signed Chester Taylor for 4 years at 12.5 mil.

That hurts the Vikes some, imo.

Interesting.... I wouldn't have expected the Bears to go after Taylor when there are numerous other teams (San Diego, Seattle, Washington, etc.) who need a rb more. Even still and okay signing even though I thought their young backup rb was showing some serious promise. Bears are serious in trying to get their team some wins this year with all their signings so far.
