This isn't really a decision for me. I'm fine that they kept Cole. I would have been fine if they kept Dwayne. Instead what I'm seeing is that both are C+ to B- talents who are elevated to B's and B+'s based on who the QB is. Cole's play is elevated when Romo is the QB. Harris's is elevated when Eli is the QB. You think Dwayne still gets 2 TDs today with Ryan Nassib? I really think there is no hindsight here to speak of.

There's no question that who is throwing to them makes all the difference in the world in terms of production (I wrote later in this thread that Cole gets a pass until we have a healthy Romo...right now it is not a very fair comparison)...but I wasn't really just comparing the two but also wondering why it is that our young players (particularly at the skilled positions) seem to "blow up" relatively speaking when they get to a new environment. Harris and Bennett come to mind, as do players like Andre Holmes with the Raiders (remember him?)...I am not saying you have to be right on EVERYONE you release (I understand why we let dudes like Jimmy Smith get away or even a Danny Amendola back in the day). Heck, maybe part of the problem is a luxury of riches...when you have dominant starters (e.g., Witten and Dez or Irvin years ago) other players just don't get the reps to develop and/or show their stuff. It just seems puzzling to me that dudes that "can't break through" here in recent years, especially, go off and become very productive players on other teams while other teams can just plug in somebody it seems (e.g., Green Bay WRs) and they produce at a pretty good level. Makes you wonder about coaching, of course...but is there some other factors at play as well?

Maybe a better slot route runner.
That's it.
If there are a dozen football things a player can do, Harris may be better at 10 of them
Zero chance then, that Beasley is a"much better" overall football player.
That's preposterous.

But we kept hi for his slot skills. So that is that

Agreed that Beastly is better at what he does but that Harris is better at everything else and adds value to three facets of the game instead of just one.

Although I think one could legitimately argue that Beasley is the more stylish fair catcher.

Dallas is famous for over scouting(valuing) its one players. Wonder why that is?

I was never a Beasley fan, when he quit during training camp I had wished he stayed away. I root for him because he is a Cowboy.
If I would have made the decision I would have kept Harris, I say let the Beaz go, have him gain some body mass and let him flourish in New England

The problem with Harris being here and with us paying him what we would pay him is that he'd still be a special teamer. For whatever reason, Garrett never cared for Harris too much. Even when he was drafted, he got cut and we were lucky enough to stash him on practice squad despite him being amazing in preseason. Harris probably would look like Lucky if he would even manage to get on the field with the offense.

The Cowboys miss Harris somewhat as a PR. They probably miss him more as a gunner. Harris is a marginal WR. Right now he's on pace for something around 300-400 yards with a good QB throwing the ball.

Right now it looks like both teams made a mistake giving the players the contracts they did. The difference is Harris is what he is, and Bealsey likely gets better when Romo comes back.

We sorely miss Harris on ST and his blocking in the run game. He was very good in that regard as well. I don't think the team addressed his departure well at all. Which is mind boggling to me. It's like they said ah we can just throw someone else out there and all will be well. He was our KR/PR Gunner 4th WR and probably our 2nd best blocker at WR. The organization really ***'d this whole situation up.

I actually thought Dallas made the right decision with Harris. There is no doubt he has been an excellent signing for the Giants though. And Dallas did a poor job filling his spot. That is on the front office.

I do hope that because of this, Dallas doesn't go back to their old ways of resigning all their guys. It is what got them in the trouble for years with older guys with multiyear deals. It should not be impossible to ask to fill a 4th wide receiver and a very good return man via the draft or a low cost FA pickup.

Harris wouldn't get more than a couple of snaps on offense here. No use in paying a guy that wouldn't see the field other than as a return specialist.

You're 100% correct that Harris wouldn't see the field enough, but that's a symptom of the larger problem. Garrett & Co. shoehorn players they deem as being their "right kind of guys" into positions rather than letting open competitions determine who gets the snaps. In a position battle where the cards aren't stacked, Dwayne Harris unseats Beasley.

True. Just like we were told many of our players who didn't make the final cut were going to get claimed by other teams because our roster was so deep this year. Ben Gardner comes to mind. If I'm not mistaken, none of our final cuts ended up on another team's active roster.

No, the ball was already snapped when he started moving forward.

They ball may have been snapped, but it reminds me of a younger Ware, he was so fast off the snap he kept getting called for off sides. I don't see a difference.

Cole Beasley is a horrible punt returner, I dare anyone argue that fact with me right now... I will use my years of law school to nail your *** to the ground the way I'm feeling right now.

It is looking like they should have kept harris, but that is hindsight.
Beasely looked better last year, but so far this year he sucks.

Beasley is the lamest slot receiver in the league! At this point, he is overpaid and useless! He cannot get free against press coverage and drops more balls than he catches! As a punt returner, he is easily the worst in the league! On top of that, he has the nerve to criticize fans for criticizing his putridity? When Romo got hurt, Beasley completely disappeared! :-(

The Giants didn't begin using Harris in the passing game until game 4, because he was new.
Since then, he's been a steady contributor who would be on a decent 750 yard 9 TD pace for a season.

Plus, he leads the NFL in kick return average at the midpoint.

They also use him on coverage team. As you may recall, he was our top gunner last year.

Well, we most likely do have one more win right now...maybe more.
