Zimmer doesn't really get it. I've seen him bring pressure before, and I've seen it find home, so I know he knows how to do it. But he doesn't do it enough. It's like he's scared of getting beat over the top or something.

Newsflash, Mikey - the blitz is a risky scheme. It takes balls to run. If you've got a pair, send seven guys every once in awhile. You'd be amazed at what it can do for your secondary.

I thought being a reporter you should know, that its Parcells not Zimmer calling the shots about being aggressive.

Bp has said that himself couple of times during his PCs that Zimmer wanted to get exotic but BP asked him to slow down since he didn't want players to get overwhelmed.

So blame it on Parcells not Zimmer for being aggressive.

Here's the thing, they have blitzed quite a bit in the past few games.

It's not about being exotic with the blitz, it's about disguising the blitz. Zimmer has had problems with his defense's disguising blitzes before Parcells came here.

I agree with BP, I'm not too big into exotic blitzes. But being able to disguise the blitz is a fundamental part of NFL defensive play. And Zimmer's defense's have been extremely weak at disguising blitzes.

Parcells and Zimmer both think The Blitz is an ice cream treat from Dairy Queen and don't want their players eating during the game, except for T.O., of course, who can do anything he wants.

I agree about disguising and that's supposed to be the beauty of the 3-4. It is hard to disguise though when you always/only blitz on 3rd and long.

I still am amazed at how many people think Zimmer determines the style of defense we play. He does coordinate the defense and design the various schemes and packages, but he does it according to Parcells instructions and guidelines.

Here's the newsflash - IT'S PARCELLS WHO HAS THE AVERSION TO BLITZING AND GETTING BEAT OVER THE TOP.

Come on guys, do you really think Zimmer is guiding the ship - as if Parcells is too scared of Zimmer to change things or feels powerless to implement new schemes?

Yes Parcell's is in control of the defense....but...Zimmer has proven over his years here.....he has no idea how to pressure the QB.

Ware is looking more like Ekuban and Carver everyday.........

Or when you show blitz about 5 seconds before the snap and you almost never stunt, zone blitz or have the blitzers fake the blitz and drop off in coverage.

Whoa there Mash. You should go back and watch footage of last week (or any week really) and focus on Ware. He is excellent all around. My friend who is a Skins fan and went to Dallas with me for game one, always says that he hates Ware. Its funny because he notices a lot of small things that he does that most people discount because they are not sacks. You can really see it at a live game. Ware is getting the job done all around and he is applying good pressure although not tearing it up with sacks. I would like to see more numbers like everybody else, but he is having an impact on D. One thing that I noticed is that our linemen usually attack the center of the blocker then make a move. I know this is great for run stopping, but doesn't lead to as much penetration as a more shoot the gap type of scheme. I actually prefer to think stop the run first, but in obvious passing downs it seems like our linemen still use this tecnique.

I do also agree that we don't do a good job of disguising our blitz. I don't know why, but its usually obvious who is coming. That doesn't have anything to do with not being aggressive with the blitz, its just not maximizing the blitz. Hopefully they are practicing this.
