It's not a problem of not blitzing. It's a problem of design and execution.

Dallas linemen were instructed not to advance beyond the midfield feather.

Open your eyes.

Two of our D-lineman are only blocked by one O-lineman, and Ware is being blocked by a TE. Only Canty really has a 2nd man on him.

Our players aren't good enough to beat a man one on one - not even a TE - and you blame Zimmer.....?

That's just mindless. Regardless of scheme you have to have good pass rushers to have a good pass rush.

Oh.. is that how you see it?

I need to get my eyes checked.. I see it as Ware only being a tick late as he's about to drill Brunell. If only he didnt have to take a peek at something else first.

Yes Parcell's is in control of the defense....but...Zimmer has proven over his years here.....he has no idea how to pressure the QB.

Ware is looking more like Ekuban and Carver everyday.........

Listen to your words "Ware is looking more like Ekuban and Carver everyday" .....

How is Ware's lack of pass rushing talent Zimmer's fault.

I think Zimmer can do some things better, but be fair - are you going to blame him for Roy dropping an interception too?

I would say if we have are lacking in quality pass rushers then we've been sold another bill of goods about all the talent on our D.

I may be mindless but I would say it's a lack of teaching skills, evaluating talent, poor coaching, or all of the above.

A tick late?

Brunell is in the middle of his throwing motion and Ware is 5 yards away with a blocker in front of him.

Maybe you meant to say 15 ticks.

Wait - I know you - you are one of the reasonable guys. This was sarcasm, right?

Why would that be so hard to believe in certain cases.

Just cause particular players are drafted, and drafted in a certain spot doesnt mean anything. We whiffed on just about everybody we drafted for about 10 years running there for a while.

If I was "sold" on anything it's my fault for buying. I buy after I see them produce at this level.. not before.

Exactly. The thing some posters don't realize is that it isn't the Cowboys and coaches "selling a bill of goods", it's the media and the personal perception of fans who are overeager to jump on a bandwagon before the player proves he is worthy.

We haven't had a decent pass rush in years. To argue that it is 'just the players' is being rather naive. There is more reason to blame it on coaching, than players such as Ware, who possess monster talent, when it happens year after year after year.

Perhaps.

But is it too much to ask that we have at least 1 guy that can beat people consistently short of if he's double teamed all the time (which would only happen after he shows that ability in the first place).. and then just worry bout whether it was the scheme or not in regards to the rest of the guys?

Who says Ware posesses monster talent? Sure he is physically gifted, but that doesn't automatically make him a monster talent as a pass rusher.

If speed and strength were the only requirments NFL scouts would never be wrong and draft choices would never fail.

The bottom line is that Ware has yet to prove he can consistently pressure the QB, even when consistently being blocked by one man.

Schemes and blitzes may be able to help some, but the bottom line is that without strong pass rushing personnel the effectiveness of the pass rush will always be limited.

I've said many times that blitzes are supposed to be supplements to the pass rush, not the only source of it.

If the ONLY way to pressure the QB is through blitzing then we have bigger problems than coaching techniques.

Is that a OL blocking Ware or a TE?

That was the play with 6:22 left in the first half, a play-action pass on first-and-10 from our 45. Ware lined up at outside linebacker and was supposed to cover Cooley, but Cooley stayed in to block. So Ware jammed Cooley at the line of scrimmage, and Cooley just stayed there. Ware had about a half-second after he started to push Cooley backward before the ball was thrown. He was never really rushing the passer on that play. If Cooley had gone out for a pass, Ware would have been covering him. The other lineman were reading the play-action.

All of the people who think this is an example of our pass-rush problems need to consider the situation and watch the play again. It wasn't a third-and-long from the shotgun when we couldn't get close to the quarterback, it was a first-down, play-action pass when only three guys were even supposed to be rushing (and after reading the run first) and Ware was supposed to be in coverage.
