Some of you guys make fun of the guy but the coaches liked him and Hatcher raved about the guy. His problem was he couldn't stay on the grass. If you can't play you can't be depended on. Both Green and Bass are too injured to play right now. Green is going on our IR. We'll get to see what he has next year as they stash him on iR this year. I hope Bass can get well enough to have a chance to play somewhere. At this point I have my doubts.

Yeah, that Spencer spot was the Bishop spot, in my opinion. Buy 6 weeks to see McClain in the lineup and decide whether you'd rather have Bishop's upside over Hayden's lukewarm consistency. Now, it makes it really tough to keep the rookie unless he's progressing really quickly in terms of anchoring against that double team consistently.

I like Bishop a lot, too. I'd hate to expose him to the rest of the league, because there's a good chance we'd lose him.

That would suck because I think Bishop is one of the few fringe players with true upside. He's better than the 5th DE, 5th Safety, 6th or 7th LB, etc..

Should be interesting to see if Belichek reclaims him to the PS in the event he clears waivers.

I figured when the traded for him that they must be planning to put him on IR. Why else would they trade for an injured player? I thought they might think that with a year of rehab with their non-Cowboys trainers that he would be good to go.

skins, giants or eagles will sign him. Heck i wouldn't doubt the 49ers sign him as a "pick your brain" signing. But really how bad our defense is is it worth it?

He's available because he is a spare level part that is easily replaced. Not sure why some of our fellow Zoners don't get that.

The bar on the defensive side of the game is at an all time low.

That, indeed, is what they need to realize, IMO

I thought either both would be ready to play near the opener or neither would play this year and both would be IR'ed. Well, one was. Hope he gets well and plays this year or next.

The Pats have been known to go heavy on IR in the past. They even go into a little trouble putting players with short term injuries on it. Based on that, I thought that might be their plan; otherwise, they trade to put themselves in a position of having to pay an injury settlement. The CB the Cowboys got back was healthy at the time of the trade, but did get injured at some point.

From the Pats perspective they would only be putting him on IR for the first time. I just seems odd that they traded for an injured player. As I said in a previous post, now they have to pay him an injury settlement.

Interesting you mentioned this. I also noticed that Seattle released like 7 players, all with injuries. It seemed like a high number to me, but maybe normal.

Before Bass was ever released by us, the word was that he'd most likely be waived anyhow. The Pats trade was an alternative.

I agree.

And as you said about Parnell, he (Bishop) will only get better with more reps.

Players like Ben Bass and Matt Johnson have short windows of opportunity. That window for Bass was last year. He had a golden opportunity and couldn't capitalize. Same with Johnson. You have to stay healthy and fight through injuries or you have no chance.

Add Sterling (Not Gold) Moore to that mix. He has had multiple opportunities to make a name for himself but he always seems to find his way to the injury list.

Jason Hatcher knew of his own growth, both as a man and an athlete...and he projected that into Bass. He liked Bass's early shown dynamics better than his own projection. He liked the man.
