– Interesting note. Yesterday a source told me linebacker Benardrick McKinney spent an extensive amount of time the past few days talking with the Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys. I previously reported on the Bronocs interest in McKinney and late last week tweeted the Cowboys were able to get in a last minute workout with the junior. Today I’m told if Kevin Johnson is unavailable when the Cowboys are on the clock in round one they will strongly consider either McKinney or Eric Kendricks. I’ve heard so much chatter connecting the Cowboys and McKinney the past three weeks I’ve got to believe where there’s smoke there’s fire.

Cannot say how I would react. The same goes for Kendricks now that knee issue has been floated out there.

I 'D love that pick

BENARDRICK McKINNEY, Mississippi State (6-4, 247, 4.65, 1-2): Fourth-year junior from Tunica, Miss. "I like him just because he's a bigger guy," one scout said. "I could see him filling that Dont'a Hightower role. Being that big ol' guy taking on guards." High-school QB started at OLB in 2012 and at MLB in 2013-'14. "Great kid, great character," a second scout said. "Brandon Spikes wasn't the athlete but same kind of player. Benardrick has to prove he can be impactful on third (down) and sub. Is he going to be Lavonte David or Mychal Kendricks on first and second downs as well as play third down? He's definitely a stud vs. the run." Finished with 243 tackles (19½ for loss), 7½ sacks He's definitely a stud vs. the run." Finished with 243 tackles (19½ for loss), 7½ sacks often rushing from a three-point stance in sub and seven big plays (combination of interceptions, fumbles forced and fumbles recovered). "Stiff in coverage," another scout said. "Straight-line fast. First- and second-down thumper. He can take you on."

Like I said, cannot be sure if I would like it. I will say this, I think he would be a little more versatile than Kendricks who pretty much would need to be the WLB.

Maybe just coincidence but Broaddus' top 50 ranked Kendricks at 26. And he called him a sideline to sideline player in every sense.

Kendricks has a knee issue? I missed that.

McKinney is not a bad in coverage as some the the analysts have indicated, but I'm still not sure if he would play in the Nickel. I can't see taking a LB in the 1st/2nd that does not project to play the Nickel. Maybe they really do want to somehow use him in some type of pass rush role, but that seems odd if we're talking 1st round.

Kendricks would almost be Sean Lee insurance as he is not going to be the MLB and I have questions if he can be the strongside LB. If they did draft him, they would need to sell me on how he would get on the field.

It was in the McGinn article where they stated that he flunked a team's medical because of it.

Might be more hijinks, but who knows.

That's too bad. I like Kendricks, but I usually downgrade any players that Broaddus likes.

Broaddus' board was frightening. If it is a reflection of how Dallas' looks, I weep for us.

Yeah. I was thinking the same.

Man, that would be a powerful starting LB corps assuming everyone is healthy.

I like McKinney. Watched him a ton. Doubt he'll ever be an all star, but he'll start in the middle from day one and you won't have to think about that position for a long time.

I'm a big fan of finding a new LB starter in the first three rounds. I would like hitchens to be depth for another year - keep getting strong, learning the game, play for injuries, backup each spot, than be thrown in as a starter in his second year.

People will see this as a slight or a vote of no confidence - it isn't. But I think Hitchens is a project I'd like to invest further in, because I think his ceiling in year three could be higher than anticipated originally.

Tough, quick, sudden, plays fast," one scout said. "Just hurt all the time. He can blow stuff up if he wants to. He may be blown up, too."

Not to mention that we need a lot of insurance at LB between McClain and Lee.

No Thanks

I like him (even took him in our Kiper Mock) but I think if we target him it's at 60.

Things would look real crowded at mike if that's the plan. Arguably, each of Ro, Lee and Hitchens is best suited to start in the middle. I'd expect McKinney to be heads and shoulders above other available options before taking him at 27 and creating that kind of log jam.

I like McKinney and kendricks. I think we wait until the second round for rb too. Seems we believe Gordon and Gurley will be gone so definitely don't want to reach.

I think moving Lee to the weakside will shield him a little more, but I agree about Hitchens and McClain.
