I like McKinney. Watched him a ton. Doubt he'll ever be an all star, but he'll start in the middle from day one and you won't have to think about that position for a long time.

Will he be on the field in the Nickel when only 2 LBs are on the field?

I think that is when they move him to rush, a little like they used Wilber at times.

Sometimes it would be nice to have the cut-ups to be able to just watch all of his pass rushes in college in one sequence.

He just does not do any one thing well enough to be counted on.

Yeah he is one of those guys who the coaches like, I'm sure he is a nice guy and does all the right things and he could babysit my neice and nephew, but he just isn't effective enough on the field. Watching him in coverage gives me flashbacks to greg ellis dropping back.

The question is, how effective is McKinney at DE?

I don't wanna draft a rich man's Kyle Wilber. If he can legitimately rush the passer, then I'm all for it. It'd be like killing two birds with one stone.

We get our SLB on first and 2nd downs, and have an edge rusher to insert into the rotation along with Hardy, Lawrence, and Mincey.

The coaches like him because they've jerked him around positionally and he always seem to do a decent job holding the fort and play solid and sound defense. A guy like Cam Lawrence on the other hand will literally cost you a game if he plays defense more than a handful of snaps.

Tony Pauline on Twitter said the Cowboys sent a dline coach to work out McKinney. Hmmmmm....

Since seeing how much better this D is with a strong middle presence I'd be okay with it. I don't trust Ro to stay on the field.

Kendricks would almost be Sean Lee insurance as he is not going to be the MLB and I have questions if he can be the strongside LB. If they did draft him, they would need to sell me on how he would get on the field.

That's true, and they usually try to get an immediate starter in round one.

– Interesting note. Yesterday a source told me linebacker Benardrick McKinney spent an extensive amount of time the past few days talking with the Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys. I previously reported on the Bronocs interest in McKinney and late last week tweeted the Cowboys were able to get in a last minute workout with the junior. Today I’m told if Kevin Johnson is unavailable when the Cowboys are on the clock in round one they will strongly consider either McKinney or Eric Kendricks. I’ve heard so much chatter connecting the Cowboys and McKinney the past three weeks I’ve got to believe where there’s smoke there’s fire.

Cannot say how I would react. The same goes for Kendricks now that knee issue has been floated out there.

This is EXACTLY the way I have been thinking the past couple of weeks, precisely those guys that order.

Most teams do. That is why the interest in LB seems a bit much in compared to areas where we are lucky we have a player with a functional brain.

Kendricks has a knee issue? I missed that.

McKinney is not a bad in coverage as some the the analysts have indicated, but I'm still not sure if he would play in the Nickel. I can't see taking a LB in the 1st/2nd that does not project to play the Nickel. Maybe they really do want to somehow use him in some type of pass rush role, but that seems odd if we're talking 1st round.

We had our Dline coaches look at McKinney, he is a DE and some LBer in our defense.

Interesting that Kevin Johnson appears to be a top target. His name is getting a lot of hype lately

Too much in my book. Good CB, but the way he is talked about it is way over the top. In a good CB class, he is probably a 2nd rounder.
