It doesn't work that way. You'd have to discount every other team's two worst games too to make a valid comparison.

Our defense has been very good most of the season with maybe 3 exceptions:

NYG x 2 (even here, it was more due to offensive TOs that it looked so bad in the first game in points surrendered, but I say they still gave up the game in the clutch)

TB

2 of those 3 games were the first two games of the season.

Our defense has probably been the most consistent defense in the league over the last 13 weeks. Heck, even that 31 we gave up to NYG is just slightly more than their season average.

Our concerns is really offensive scoring.

And Romo and Felix gave up 10 of it.

The Great Packers defense gave up 38 points against Tampa Bay. :D

pitching a shutout is damn hard to do in today's NFL regardless of how incompetent your opponent is.. with that said I gotta go with the hometeam :starspin

edit: ESPECIALLY on the road

I think it's pretty clear that our D is the nest in the NFC right now. Frankly it's so clear to me that when I saw the title of this thread I assumed that it was either trolling or a joke post. Best D by a fair margin.

Since I'm on vacation and not tired yet, here you go:

Average points per game given up minus their two highest totals for each NFC playoff team

Dallas - 14.2

Green Bay – 16.4

Philadelphia – 17.4

Arizona – 17.4

Minnesota – 18.7

New Orleans – 19.5

In all honesty, I think any of the top four are pretty close but I do think GB and us are a bit better than Philly and Minnesota.

I think part of my ranking for GB is how tough they played us that day. They defended us as good as any team in the Romo era.

Ummmm, what?

Whats the vibe going into the Vikings game?

Do you think the Giants will show some pride and bring it or have they called it a season?

In the second game?

7 were on that fluke punt return where Hixon reversed directions.

7 were on that fluke pass in the flats where jacobs outran the whole team and Sensabaugh was held.

I can't remember Romo and Felix giving up points in that game or are you talking about the first game?

Who would you say is bringing the best defense to the postseason?

Dallas safety play stops them from being an elite defense.
the safety play is poor at best and one of the worst in the league

and yet we have one of the fewest amount of big plays allowed?

Thought that was the safetys job, or is being super man like Jairus Byrd, Troy P. and Ed Reed their job?

Honestly, I have no idea. The Giants for whatever reason play much better on the road. I have a feeling they didn't like Giants Stadium anymore. Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning have been apologetic to the fans Sunday after the game and yesterday. They are embarrassed the way they played.

I hope they lose to be honest with you. A loss could mean a draft pick as high as 10. A win could put them in the low 20's.

The range seems to be more like 12-18 of what my friends were talking about earlier today during FootBall Winter Training, but that is precisely why I want you to win.

Don't mind him.

Hope the old saying is true -- defense wins championships.

Our defense is so freakin consistent game in and game out. It is really a tribute to what Wade has accomplished here. I wish we could force a few more TOs but maybe those will come more next year as we gain more confidence and put in a couple more wrinkles (we had a lot of new starters this year). This defense is good enough to be a SB winning type of defense.

If we figure out our yards vs. points conundrum which has haunted us this season we really only need a good rather than great effort from our defense. I calculated in another thread that we are only scoring 58 points per thousand yards. In contrast, NO puts up 82 points per thousand yards. This may be the key to us winning - fixing this one issue.

I really like that we are starting to use Felix a little more now. I really hope he puts on a show against Philly that gives Garrett more confidence in him.

Games always slow down in the postseason.

If anything playing this way is a gift, as it will get us used to those types of games.

Can someone please explain how games "slow down" in the postseason?

I still don't think the Packers are anywhere close to Dallas defensively, especially when you consider the pathetic level of competition that the Packers faced this season.
