flipped a coin between Staubach and Aikman and it landed on the designated side for Staubach so he wins

I enjoyed watching Roger as well and think he is one of the all time greats. So is Troy Aikman and in my opinion it was not just the fact he helped the team to 3 SB but his pure abilities at the position. I have also seen Great QB's on bad teams that hurt their winning percentage but none the less the QB's skills showed up. A QB can only do so much, he has no control over special teams or defense and both of those areas of a team contribute to winning and losing.

A good team can loss with a bad QB consistantly. An average team can win with a great QB, consistantly. It is the most important position on the field. You can not afford to live with bad QB play if you want to win IMO. This is why I am such an advocate of quality QBs above all else. I saw both of them play and I cast my vote on Roger. Aikman was great. He had exceptional skills in certain areas but, Roger had that one thing that makes teams better then they are IMO. He could make players believe. To me, that seperates the two. It is only my opinion but it's what I belief.

I agree a bad QB can get you beat, all I'm saying is winning is more than just QB spot, he can't control what defense does and he can't control what special teams do he has control over the offense but I have seen guys put up 300 plus yards and throw the TD and their team still loses because the defense can't stop anyone. I think winning precentage is not a great standard to use because a QB can do only so much even if the position itself is one of the most important on the field. As for Roger and Troy as I said I think both a great QB's and anyone who feels Roger was the best there clearly is enough evidence to prove the point, same goes for Troy which is why I said it comes down to a matter of opinion.

Who actually won more games overall??

I don't know the breakdown of wins for each QB. This is what I do know:

Staubach was a Cowboy from 1969-1979. During that time Dallas went 116-41-1 in the regular season and 12-7 in the post season. The league played 14 game schedule from 1969-1977 and then went to a 16 game schedule. Dallas was in the playoffs 9 of Staubach's 11 seasons. Of course Craig Morton was QB for part of the time and led the team to a Superbowl appearance.

Aikman was a Cowboy from 1989-2000. During that time Dallas went 107-85 in the regular season and 12-5 in the post season. Dallas was in the playoffs 8 of Aikman's 12 seasons. Of course Aikman also split time early in his career with Steve Beurlein leading Dallas to a playoff win against Chicago in 1991.

You mean like when someone says that Troy Smth will be a better pro QB than Beady Quinn? ;)

If I was stating it as a fact, I would have prefaced it as such. I would not have then gone on to put IMO at the end of my post either.

Roger's teams were not nearly as dominant for their times period as Troy's were IMO. I simply believe that those 70's teams owed a larger part of their success to Roger than the 90's teams owed to Troy. That is all. You're right though...there is no right or wrong answer. I love them both as well.

You'll see the Midget is going to be better.:D

I picked Roger Staubach of course (see my sig picture and Avatar). To me that is a no brainer but I admit that he was probably my first sports hero and will always stand head and shoulders above everyone else in my estimation.

Be that as it may...I think that in fairness Craig Morton should have had his name on the list. He led the Cowboys to the Superbowl one year; something only Staubach and Aikman have also done. I wouldn't have voted for him but I feel he deserved to have his name on the list.

Danny White got 2 votes?
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Statistically Danny White was one of the best QB's in club history and led the Cowboys to 3 consecutive NFC Title games. Had the ball bounced his way in just one of those 3 games he would in all likelihood have also won a Superbowl, and would most likely be in the HOF. He would have more than 2 votes and you would not be laughing but for one or two plays going the wrong way for him. The difference between Danny White our forgotten (almost) hero and Steve Young the 49ers HOF QB is that the ball DID bounce Young’s way in ONE game.

Like ABQ said, I don't feel qualified to vote because I never saw Meredith play. But many people whose opinion I respect say he was better than even Staubach and Aikman.

Maybe that's good because I can't decide between Roger and Troy. IMO Aikman is very underrated by many people today, but I'm still not sure he was better than Staubach. I guess if you really put a gun to my head I'd go with Staubach, but boy is it close.

And hey, taps-n-1... I was thinking about a Dorsett vs. Emmitt poll tomorrow. Whaddya think?

I just don't see it as even close between Staubach and Aikman. They are both hall of famers. But to me it is like Babe Ruth and Yogi Berra both being hall of famers.

They are both in the hall, but one is clearly better than the other.

I believe Bob Hayes was quoted as saying that if Meredith had not retired so early, no one would have heard of Roger Staubach. Something to that effect.

Roger himself said that the success of those legendary Cowboy teams should go to Meredith...

We've been fortunate to have some great QB's throughout our history...
