Really jaw-dropping that they have freaking Eli manning that high.

He was the very definition of average to above average (in his good years). Never, ever, had a season where he was a top 5 QB in the league. Not once.

This idiot has Eli ahead of Moon, Mahomes, Fouts...and so many others he has no business being ahead of.

Serious question .........Does Eli get voted into the HOF 1st ballot?

I give up predicting how it'll go for him.
He truly was just an average QB who played for along time.

But being the QB for a team that wins two SBs is one thing, and being that guy when the team is from New York gives him a turbo booster.
It does matter that the other 14 years of his career were either one and done in the payoffs or no payoffs at all.
And doesn't even matter that even in his Super Bowl years he was barely a top 15 QB...at his best.
Also doesn't matter that he was always at or near the top in interceptions.

He's got 2 rings and played for the Big Apple.

In 2007 (1st SB)
  • 28th in the league in QB rating....so almost the very worst
  • 12th in yards
  • Worst in interceptions

yet they won the SB, holding the unstoppable Patriots to 14 points, and scoring 17

2011 was similar

Mostly no playoffs the rest of his career, but when they did make, they (and he) were awful.

Four things I think get him as a 1st ballot..........

  • Big Apple as you mention
  • TWO Super Bowl rings
  • Last name Manning

  • Never missing a game due to injury, he started 210 consecutive games from 2004 to 2017, the third-longest consecutive starts streak by an NFL quarterback. Manning ranks eighth all-time in passing yards and ninth in touchdowns.
    Passing yards: 57,023
    Passing completions: 4,895
    Passing attempts: 8,119

Where's Jurgenson and Tittle? How about Esiason? Ken Anderson? Hadl, Gabriel, Brodie, Blanda, Krieg?

Romo was widely considered a better QB than Eli.

Eli Manning should be no where on a list like that. Steve Young needs dropped at least two levels…he’s one PI call away from having zero rings. Rodgers needs dropped one or two levels. Jim Kelly needs moved up a level. Philip Rivers on the list…lol.
the bottom tier altogether…kinda laughable.

How would 1 PI call take away 3 Super Bowls? lol

I wish they would actually rank these in terms of skill and not just in terms of how you did in your era of competition.

Otto Graham?
Joe Namath?
Sid Luckman?
N.V. Brocklin?
Sammy Baugh?

They should be their own lists. There's back ups in the NFL today that would dominate in their time periods.

P.S. Joe Namath is the most overrated football player ever.

No they wouldn’t, because DBs could put their hands on players the whole way, basically pre-80s. Then their WRs didn’t have these type of catching gloves, nor do QBs wear the bulky type uniforms that were worn by players like Aikman and prior and the fields are much faster now. Brady had hardly been touched his whole career relative to QBs in his own generation.

People discredit the old generation based on not on actual facts, ignoring completely different rules as well as tech innovations. The human body does not evolve that fast, unless they are using PEDs, which the modern generation had the best access too.

It’s the same with the NBA. Most players today would be called for palming or traveling over 50% of the time, they’d be called for a travel on a they step back they now use to get open on so many of their three point shots, because it would be illegal, the actual “two steps” on a drive was two steps, meaning you’d have to elevate on number 2 and so on. None of the modern players could play under those rules..

Montana is way better than any of those 3 he is there with. Manning didn’t even win a SB until the DB rules were changed in his favor and would get owned in the playoffs. Rodgers is a choke artist. Brees won only 1 SB and was flat out robbed in the playoffs, while it’s impressive his numbers with his height, it was also a problem why he didn’t have as much success and would throw Ill-timed INTs in the playoffs.

Eli Manning gets into the Hall of Fame on the first-ballot? And Jim Pluckett has never even been a finalist in 36 years?

I'm gonna start calling this speculative nonsense Chuck Howley Syndrome.

Plunkett (72-72) and Eli (117-117) both had a veritable "push" regarding career regular season winning %. Both were the very definition of mediocrity. And yea, their teams won Superbowls, but over half the QBs in the league would have done the same with those teams.

I have a Eli in the Jim Plunkett category. Overall body of work pretty middling, however rose to the occasion for two great Superbowl runs.

Interesting ........Marino with no ring on tier 2 and Aikman with three on tier 3, same as Eli Manning. As good as he is, P Mahomes on the list is a bit premature.

Matt Ryan and McNabb should not be on this list. Favre needs to be down a bit. Fouts needs to be elevated. Where the hell is Roger???? Tier 4??? No way. Elway needs to be on that second line. Eli higher than Bradshaw? Insanity. This is a fun list though.
