What do you all think was the reason Chuck on leave from work at his law firm? Was unclear with that as he didn't look really sick or mentally unhinged. Also, if Jim (Saul) is pretending to be one of the partners at the law firm, then who/where is the real Jim McClain?

Also, when watching the VHS tape of Saul Goodman at the beginning of the episode, Saul looked pained...I wonder why.

Chuck had a worry about electronic/magnetic devices to the point people had to leave stuff outside and had to ground themselves when they came in.

I don't know what medical condition would cause that so I just figured it was a mental issue...paranoia perhaps.

I don't think he is pretending to be Jim McGill. I think that is his real name.

What I think he is doing is using his real name and suckering people into thinking he is a member of Hamlin Hamlin and McGill which is a high end lawyer firm that most in the area would have probably heard of. Now maybe he is related to one of the members there but I think he just happens to have the same last name and trying to profit from it...hence the reason the guy had the conversation about changing his name as a professional courtesy.

The last part is easy.

At the beginning of the series when he is working at Cinnabon and when he is watching the VHS tape of Saul Goodman...it was AFTER all of this stuff as went down.
This show "better call saul" is set BEFORE any of the breaking bad episodes. It is a prequel to any of his dealings with walter white.
At the end of the breaking bad show, Saul Goodman changed his identity and went into hiding...sort of a witness relocation thing but without the government. At the end of the breaking bad series he actually said something along the lines of winding up working at a cinnabon in omaha. When the episode starts he is working at a cinnabon in omaha nebraska. He thought the one guy looking at him might have recognized him as saul and was coming at him but turned out the guy was not looking at him at all.

When he got home, after working a normal job for normal pay and going to a small home with nobody there...he pulls out a little VHS tape from his past life and it is the better call saul videos and he is reminiscing about his past life where he had a great job, great pay, great home and so on.

There is a lot of filler, in BB, that might be why.

The fly episode being one of them.

Yeah...every season on breaking bad it seemed like they had at LEAST one episode where it was all filler or dream stuff that the average viewer was not going to like because it was so slow but if you looked at it after the season it contained clues to the season.

Yea, that's part of it. For the most part though I just don't find any of the characters all that interesting...or at least not interesting over the course of a series.

There was one season, might of been the 3rd, where it was just dragging.....Might of been the one where Jessie was riding with Mike. I was going to stop watching it.

I don't agree at all about BB. I never saw a single episode I didn't like or that I thought was just dragging along filler. There were hints and clues to things in the season in episodes.

To each their own though.

Saul is the real Jim McGill, it just how people could confuse Jim McGill as apart of the group his brother Chuck McGill is apart of

The last 10 minutes saved it as the rest of the show was Meh.
Although I do realize it is just set up for the rest of the season so I expect the next episode to be much better for the length of the episode.

Yeah, I think the foundation is laid for a good show. I was a little bored in the beginning.

Really liked it until Tuco showed up. His character was just annoying in BB.

Seriously? I thought Tuco (Raymond Cruz) drove the plot in several episodes until Hank blew him away in a desert shootout. He's a stone killer freak with a Tony Montana ego. As soon as he answered Jimmy/Saul's doorknock with that .44 - I figured the skateboard twins were already ground meat. Don't disrespect his gandma.

The office visit paid to Jimmy by Tuco's henchman at the end of Episode 2 - and his subsequent business offer - has the wheels turning. I know I'll be tuning in next Monday.

This show is off to a promising start.

Oh, yeah... and 'hitman' Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) as the parking garage attendant who daily frustrates our protagonist, Jimmy/Saul.

i absolutely loved it when i saw TUCO! He was one of my favorite characters from BrBa. I felt he should have been around longer/not killed off so quick.

I believe I read that he asked Vince to kill him off sooner in the narrative because his acting was getting too intense it was messing up his reality. lol

I can so no wrong about BrBa nor Better Call Saul (so far so good).

I guess the only thing is i wanted more seasons.

best show on tv imho.

agreed. i loved every moment/second of BrBa. The so called filler episodes to me were breathing episodes. Take a deep breath and then BOOM exhale episodes came after. Calm before the storm sort of thing. Its like saying watching football is boring because when the team goes into the huddle there is no action. The huddle is necessary (for the most part unless no huddle like eagles lol) to every football team for obvious reasons. But yeh to each their own. I don't demand people like BrBa. I can respect differing opinions. I cant get into the Walking Dead but a lot of folks enjoy it.

Yeah I agree on what you're saying about the taking a breath. Plus I just always felt like those episodes were the ones that gave you the little things about the characters themselves. Built little things about their personalities and things like that which I felt were just brilliant to the show.
