Watt plays a higher profile position, but I think Tyron is better at what he does...or at least he was better.

Would have to disagree. When Watt was winning those three defensive player of the year awards, prior to all his injuries he was the best defensive player I had seen since Lawrence Taylor. He has the same number of defensive player of the year awards as Aaron Donald.

Watt will go down as the greater player.

Watt won defensive player of the year three times. He was clearly more dominant at his position than Tyron Smith. Watt was a game changer. You won’t find Tyron Smith ranked ahead of JJ Watt in any all-time player ranking. Tyron will likely make the Hall of Fame but it’s not a slam dunk. A recent article gave his chances of making the Hall of Fame at 90%.

Not taking anything away from Watt, he's obviously a great player. But I think Tyron's job is harder, with less accolades. I don't know, it's impossible to accurately compare the two positions, but if I had my choice of the two, Tyron would be my pick.

They both got drafted the sane year. Tyron’s young enough to make pro bowls for 3 -5 more years. Watt fell off sooner too. Tyron’s still elite when healthy. Who had the better career?
What Tyron may or may not do in the future can't really be factored in because, although it's true age alone doesn't prohibit him having more success, he has struggled with health for several years and we simply don't and can't know that the future holds.

I don't really think a person can fairly say which had the better career. Their positions are so different that you can't judge on stats. Many will probably say Watt because sacks are flashier than preventing sacks, but that's more of a perception thing. They have both been great.

Watt had the more legendary career.

Tyron is phenomenal. A HOF'er at a incredibly valuable position made only more valuable by our OL woes in 2010.

But it's hard to say that he had a better career than Watt when Watt was a 3x DPOY.

I am too young to have watched LT really play, so for me Watt is the most dominant player I've ever seen.

I still think Peak Watt was better than Peak Donald.

nah... Strahan was better than Both guys(Watt and Donald). He was dominant for a long time, carried his teams at times.

The reason no one on the OL wins OPOY is they don’t impact the game like a skill position player, which is why they’re not ranked ahead of skill position players. When you look at the all-time greatest players list, you’re going to have to go way down the list before you come to your first player on the OL. Players like JJ Watt and Aaron Donald have won so many DPOY awards because they’re game changers who’ve contributed to a lot of wins.
