Tyron has missed 45 games and Watt has missed 44 games with injuries so it’s been pretty even. Watt has clearly been the more dominant player. Not only has he won three DPOY awards but he’s the only player in NFL history to record two 20 plus sack seasons. It’s hard comparing them because they play two completely different positions but Watt has been one of the greatest defensive game changers in NFL history. On Talkin Cowboys a few years ago they debated JJ Watt versus Tyron Smith. Everyone on the show said if the Cowboys had it to do all over again they would’ve taken Watt over Smith because he’s been a generational player. You won’t find an all-time player ranking anywhere that has Tyron Smith ranked a head of JJ Watt. Although Tyron has been a great player he’s not even the greatest player we’ve drafted on the OL the past couple of decades. It’s been Zach Martin.
No offense but Martin plays the easier position of the two.. Even he would tell you that. And like I said, Watt shined brighter at his peak because of the position he plays.. but that should in no way motivate people to minimize Tyron's greatness. And unless he just decides to retire.. Tyron's story is not yet done being written. Tyron was considered one of the best in the game even as recent as last season. He was named to the Pro Bowl despite missing 6 games.. Watt has not had that honor since 2018. Though it's not likely it's certainly possible that Tyron puts together 3-4 more years of high level play. Seems like Watt isn't going to be doing that.
