Better Cowboys team, 2007 or 2014

2007. The weak showing in the playoff game vs NYG tends to make people forget how powerful that team was throughout the regular season. A pretty balanced team all around. Could've easily been a Super Bowl team.

It has to be better than the 2014 d.
Good question. I think it was close.

The 2007 defense was WAY better. Short memories here.
I guess Scandrick could start....maybe? McClain maybe too? So 2 out of 11.

The 2007 line was aging a bit though, and by late in the year was starting to falter.

Romo had great numbers in 2007, but he was a better player in 2014 overall.

Both run games were great and both had very good passing games.

First off, very good topic during an offseason dead-spot.

My opinion- this is extremely difficult to answer. I'll say this much, as a franchise I feel a lot better about where we are now vs the way things played out after 2007. The '07 squad was very good in that moment, but I don't think many realized how badly they were about to fall off.

The '07 squad was a high point for a lot of players that were on the team then. The '14 squad is a team in it's infancy, overall.

Our 2007 season was pretty fantastic. But I liked our team in 09 much better, or at least the latter half of the season.Once Austin emerged, things seemed to come together.

Plus we shut out teams, back to back, and they were rivals. We nearly shut the Eagles out again in the playoffs. Too bad our defense choked in the divisional round.

However, 2014 was just something special. The way we were winning games, just much more convincing. And I wasn't embarrassed with our final loss of the year, 07 losing against the Giants for them to go on to the Super Bowl and then us getting demolished by the Vikings. We were competitive in the Packers game.

Great point

It's tough to say.

If the question was, which team had a better chance at winning a Super Bowl, it's the 2014 squad easily.

We had no answer for that '07 Patriots offense.

2007 will burn forever. Think we beat favre and then the rematch against Brady.

1994
2007
2014

We might of beat the giants, perhaps beat the packers..but no way in hell we beat the Patriots.

The 09 team I thought was good until we got our doors blown off.. the mentality of the 2014 team was much better than any of those teams. Romo was much better as a leader and our team never gave up.

2014
2007
2009

I agree but so will 2014. We were basically a bad call away from winning our first road playoff game in 20 plus years and heading to play the defending champs at their place where we dominated earlier in the year. To me 2014 hurt more because of the way we were robbed...

2007 was considerably better. But the team just wasn't mentally as tough.

It was actually a younger team than most seem to remember, and that was kind of the problem. Romo was 27, Witten and Ware were 25.

But TO was in his 30s. Greg Ellis was in his 30s (guys who were rumored to be bad character guys) And most of the veteran lineman were hired guns. You didn't have the old salty veterans on the team to keep players focused, and Wade sure as he'll wasn't going to do it. Then Even Garrett was pretty inexperienced as an OC.

Better? I'm not sure. Which would I rather have as my team? Easy. The 2014 team. Second youngest in the NFL with good direction and a much better front office.

That 2007 team was old and caught in the throes of cap issues. It just didn't feel as solid as this past year's team.

There is no question that the franchise is in much better shape now and has a much brighter immediate future, IMO.

I'll say 2014 was better. But if you put 2014 version of Romo on the 2007 team, 07 is better.

The 2007 OL isn't better. Romo would be slower in his reactions, his scrambling, and his deep ball isn't as strong as his 2007 self. And of course, he has his back probs to contend with. Smarts better yes, everything else no.

Nobody on our 07 defense is covering dez, and Beasley is gonna carve as well. Ware against Tyron is a marquee match up but otherwise our oline is stonewalling everybody else. Romo is a much more cerebral assassin now, and the running game was best in the league. So idk that the 07 team really has an advantage

That, and our 2014 team was a TEAM with swagger. They played for one another and had a ton more fight in them than 07 did. They were not afraid of the big game either. That alone gives the 2014 team the advantage.

if I had any doubts you were a very recent so called Cowboy Fan this post pretty much removed them. The 2007 team was destroying teams early in the season and midway before injuries started to take their toll. At their peak the 2007 team probably beats the 2014 team by 14 points.

They destroyed teams early in the season because they played the Dolphins (1-15), Bears (7-9), Rams (3-13), Bills (7-9), and Vikings (8-8).
