Better To Bite The Bullet Than Extend Dak

Nobody is saying don't re-sign Dak; just don't extend him.
Make him earn his next contract.
It's amazing how nervous Dak fans get at the prospect of him having to earn it.
How do you extend without resigning? Lol.

It’s amazing how people that don’t approve a Prescott get nervous when they throw more money at him

Not once have I heard a viable succession plan for moving on from Dak. I guess cutting him loose, going 4-13 and hoping to get a good player in the 2025 draft is the plan? LOL.
Chiefs had Alex Smith who is basically a Dak clone someone that had a winning record in the regular season but would flame out early in the playoffs. They traded up in the draft and got Mahomes while still having Smith.

I know that that's not the Cowboys though. I expect Dak to be here until he's 38, but I do not expect a Super Bowl in that time period. Would love to be proven wrong, but this is Dak's 8th year and it's basically Romo era redux.

And the 49ers haven’t done much better

The same people sniffing Daks jock strap are the same people that would sniff Gary Hogboom or Steve Pelluer' jock strap.
How dare you criticize the starting Cowboys QB.

We absolutely know what Dak is. He's been here for 8 years. Throw the dice and get a QB in the first round. You don't hit home runs when you don't swing the bat.

I would love for Jerry to give these Dak haters exactly what they want and not resign Dak. I guarantee you after 2-3 years of Trey Lance or whichever other QB, they will be wishing we had Dak back.

Good thing Jerry and Company are not as ignorant. Just hope Dak is willing to give the Cowboys a little discount on his next upcoming extension.
AC - i appreicate your pov but i think the challenge is at this point we know 100% what dak is, and that is a good to very good qb in the regular season that can beat bad to average teams (along with any NFCE team), but struggles against zone and more phyical teams. He also has challenges winning in big moments.

Will he get us to double digit wins and the playoffs most years - 100% - and thats part of why he is a good qb....but thats not the issue, the issue is we know his ceiling, we have all seen it and there is no raising it at this point in his career.

I held on to hope for a long long time, but after SF this year its clear, hes just not going to be anything more than a WC round winning qb.

That in mind, i would rather take my chances with another qb that could have a different outcome...sure we could struggle and Trey Lance could be terrible, but at least there would be hope that another qb could rise to the occasion and have a different outcome.

Its not hating dak, its understanding the fact that hes hit his ceiling...if you are ok with that then you have to also be ok with knowing this team is not going back to the SB. I am frankly at the point, as are many fans, that i would rather see a young qb in there with hope (even if it means we have worse records potentially) vs dak with a ceiling he cant get past

Let Dak play out his contract and trade Micah Parsons + a 1 for the rights to draft the best qb in 2024 for the #1 overall pick to the Bears

Nope. Totally disagree. It definitely is Dak hating, especially since this is the best passer rating season Dak has had (8 years in through his career). Dak has gotten better, not worse, as he's gotten older. His numbers prove you wrong.

I am not a Dak hater but I would like to see us give Lance a legitimate shot at this. This team is not going to win anything with Prescott - just my opinion. Build a TEAM around him with some real depth in the trenches and see how it plays out.

This approach of giving a huge portion of the teams cap hit on an average QB that is not a difference maker isn't going to work out.

Shake things up and move on.

Hit his ceiling, MVP. Not a bad ceiling. Imagine if we had a running game to complement.

Which you say is impossible to do. If we lose Dak we are destined to never ever have a good QB again!
We had 17 different starting quarterbacks between Troy, Aikman, and Tony Romo. How many do you think it would take after Prescott to find a quarterback. I think 20.

Part of me wants Dak to move on so we can watch him play for a better organization.
