Big changes at 103.3 ESPN

I think they are horrible. Never found them funny or thought they made an original point about anything. Nate slurred like he was drunk but could at least bring a players insight. Why did the keep Coop on?

The problem for ESPN and The Fan is that their ratings are so microscopically small compared to the The Ticket, they barely register at all.

Ben and Skin should have never left The Ticket. All they do is Ticket Schtict, and if they would have just bided their time, they would have found their way into the fold over there.

The only guy at ESPN that has a shot is Galloway, and that's only because he's been doing radio here for well over 20 years. He gets a mild following as a result.

It's nice in theory. The problem is that slots in the Ticket never open up, because they never get fired because their ratings are so good. There hasn't been a slot opening in 15 years, and unless Norm wants to hang it up it will probably won't be for another 5-10. You're also not accounting for the fact that everyone in radio basically gets paid minimum wage with no health coverage if they aren't hosting their own shows. Guys like Coop may never sit atop the ratings and have to bounce around occasionally from gig to gig, but at least he's been able to put food on the table and provide for his family.

Well, they could have got the night spot first, and if that went well, I could have seen a scenario where they could have taken an hour from the morning show and an hour from the Hardline, and wedged them in. Norm isn't going to be there forever obviously.

Mark Elfenbein made an error, too, though I understand him wanting to get off of Sundays and stop selling houses. His show is crap, and that Slater ditz is an embarassment. She has a second-grade understanding of sports.

Bad for Ben and Skin......great for DFW, they were horrible, brought nothing.....
like many mediots in DFW they constantly threw out made up scenarios then gradually allowed them to morph into their facts and then proceeded to push their "facts"....

I personally liked Nate ......I think all these stations would do the metroplex a favor by adding previous players t their line ups...it adds credibility IMO

They had already been working nights and weekends at the Ticket. They had hit their ceiling. The Hardline is a huge cash cow and money maker for the station, they're not going to take away their billing hours.

The Hardline is pretty shaky in the 3 o'clock hour (compared to the old days). Galloway has some traction there.

Plus, and you'll have to trust me on this, Mike Rhyner is looking for a way to back off a bit. Not retire, but just take a lesser role. Four hours is a LONG time on the radio in a day, and he's getting burnt out on it.

Ben & Skin at least had a presence in the media back then. Now, they've faded into obscurity, and Skin on TV during the Mavericks games is not doing him favors. He comes across awkward, cocky, and without a bit of chemistry with the other guys. His humor doesn't play in that setting whatsoever.

It's a weird world to live in where doing weekend gigs is having "presence", while having your own daily time slot and being on TV nightly is "fading into obscurity".

Well, you're pretty obscure if you're on the radio talking to about 15 people on a daily basis, while on the weekend, a ton of P1s have their radios set to The Ticket by default while they're running honey-dos and going to soccer games.

Skin is not well-liked on the Mavs broadcasts by the viewers. That's why you see less and less of him on there.

This is the 5th largest market in the country.

Anyone doing a show here is doing darn well.
Any thoughts of minimum wage is hilariously wrong.

Ben and Skin are still learning this business but have been doing quite well. They actually have friends at Ticket who have already stated they'd land on their feet.

The Ticket does very well in its main demographic but this thought they lap the field with sports radio is silly.

They were at a 2.4 market share for January. CBS Radio(The fan) was at 2.0, ESPN103.3 was at 1.6

Amongst all DFW stations they finished 18th, 20th and 22nd.

Keep in mind while reading the DMN stuff they have some relationship with the Ticket and spew the rosiest nonsense possible their way.

Cowherd has been tried and failed as a main product in DFW. ESPN leaving that 2 hour gap there with 4 hours of a new non-name brand show tells me they'll have another change coming shortly.

please dont post just silly things.

the espn ratings during the weekdays are about 5 times anything the ticket gets on weekends.

weekend sports shows are barely a blip on the radar.
only the nfl draft. cowboys pre-post game shows and actual game itself garner any ratings.

That's not the point.

One stand in for Norm Hitzges will get more listeners than six months of weekday shows on ESPN. That's how Bob Sturm did it. Guys like Mark Followill and Corby Davidson also made their way through the background roles first.

ESPN and The Fan is the proverbial "tree falling in the forest" scenario.

I'm a big fan of Ben and Skin, they brought something different to sports radio and were hilarious. Good guests, good loyal following especially the younger listeners. I'd usually go from Ben/Skin, to GAC, to G-bag nation. That's just me but I've never heard the ticket. Hopefully they land somewhere else.

Those market share numbers are irrelevant. What are the men 25-54 ratings? That is where they are judged.

Plus, the Ticket gets a massive internet following across the country. HUGE.

That not at all true.
Good grief, try using basic math.

BaDD Radio is beating up on Ben and Skin for sure. Heck I like BaDD radio better. In fact it is the only show on the Ticket I can stand daily.

But a mere 3 days of Ben and Skin equals the Ticket counterpart not any 6 months crap.

Sturm moved here and took a job as a HOST. Not some glorified fill-in.
Same with Dan by the way.

Followill was an extra... and he left to move on to greater pastures BY FAR.

Corby was the producer and yuck-monkey for Chris Arnold. He was a hanger on who got promoted. But he's about the one guy your example plays too. The rest of these ticket hangers on have left to take jobs elsewhere ... I wonder why?

I'm surprised Nate Newton lasted this long. The guy was terrible for radio, IMO. Ben and Skin is a surprise though.
ESPN is putting it's own slant on this.

Ben and Skin's contract was up and they were offered more elsewhere is my guess..and ESPN did not match the offer.

Looking at at their twitter, guess they turned down ESPN's "final offer" on a new contract, but they claim they'll be back soon... Maybe on a different station or maybe with more money from ESPN, who knows.

I know this, I'll never listen to Cowherd. Don't know how anyone can stand that guy.

I used to hate Colin. Now I can't seem to turn the channel. It's either The Dan Patrick Show or The Herd. Love em both. Colin tells it like it is.

He has the most annoying voice that I've ever heard.

Cowherd actually ties to be empirical in his approach. He is more nasally than most radio personalities but talking through you sinuses is what clear channel goes for.

I cannot really seem to care much about AM radio where slackjaw humor and emotional appeal is what is most important.

Ehhh...who cares honestly. It's not a big loss with any of them. They were ok but nothing that made feel like they were destination radio listening.
