Their voices are too similar. I could barely tell them apart.

2000-2004 Hardline is still the best in DFW Sports Radio history

Cowherd actually ties to be empirical in his approach. He is more nasally than most radio personalities but talking through you sinuses is what clear channel goes for.

I cannot really seem to care much about AM radio where slackjaw humor and emotional appeal is what is most important.

I don't mind Cowherd. I feel like he makes some valid points he's just a bit of a doosh.

It's interesting how you can tell what one's Cowboys outlook is like in large part by their listening tendencies on DFW area sports radio.

My whole knack on sports radio in Dallas is that its rarely about sports. Its these lame jokes and in the case of the Ticket its about everything but sports especially at around 5.

I liked Coop and Nate. I enjoyed listening to Nate's past Cowboys stories. He was pretty knowledgeable about other sports too. He initially didn't sound too good on there but he got comfortable.

I personally liked Nate ......I think all these stations would do the metroplex a favor by adding previous players t their line ups...it adds credibility IMO
I think that unless the former player is simply GREAT, the best thing you could possibly do is a seasonal show with Nate. Bring him in during football season, then he can vacation until football season rolls around again.

"GREAT" ex players arent gonna be doing daily radio shows.....its not like Nate was a spare, he was real good player on one of the best teams we've ever seen.....his knowledge is formidable IMO....besides he only had a 1 hour show

The problem for ESPN and The Fan is that their ratings are so microscopically small compared to the The Ticket, they barely register at all.

Ben and Skin should have never left The Ticket. All they do is Ticket Schtict, and if they would have just bided their time, they would have found their way into the fold over there.

The only guy at ESPN that has a shot is Galloway, and that's only because he's been doing radio here for well over 20 years. He gets a mild following as a result.
There is no room for Ben and Skin at the ticket, unless they do a 7:00 pm-10:00 pm show.No matter what anyone thinks of the ticket, they when the ratings war, from 5:30 am-7:00 pm,monday thru friday. The only other place for Ben and Skin over there is on weekends.

Well, they could have got the night spot first, and if that went well, I could have seen a scenario where they could have taken an hour from the morning show and an hour from the Hardline, and wedged them in. Norm isn't going to be there forever obviously.

Mark Elfenbein made an error, too, though I understand him wanting to get off of Sundays and stop selling houses. His show is crap, and that Slater ditz is an embarassment. She has a second-grade understanding of sports.
The ticket would never take away an hour from the morning show,or the hardline. Those are their top 2 rated shows. At least for Elfenbein he gets to do a weekday show at the fan.He would never get that at the ticket.

Ben & Skin were ok at times. Tolerable because they did have some good guests and those conversations were what made the show worth listening to IMO. The "humor" stuff was too much foolishness at times.

Nate always sounded like an uneducated goof but his primary value was in his insight to football and the Cowboys. For an hour a day it was fine. Anything more than an hour would have been too much.

Colin says some stupid stuff at times but for the most part he makes some good points. I think he tries to be pretty objective - unlike may others. He's not always right, and he is too arrogant at times, but you get used to him.

I dont see Ben & Skin as a huge loss. Nate isnt a real loss either. But, it depends on what they replace it with. The current replacement isnt going to make it long term - at least you wouldnt think so. Stranger things have happened. FoxNews replaced Glenn Beck with "The Five" and that show as bad as it is is still on for some reason. So who knows.

I am not a fan of Ben and skin.

Having said that the fan runs the worst radio show in history out everyday from 10-2 with elf and slater. It's absolutely horrible.

Ben and skin would make perfect sense in that slot and maybe even 10-3 giving the audience less of Whitt and fisher/greggo......

Only thing is they left the fan for 103.3 because the fans management didn't like there show and didn't want them together.

Bruce Gilbert is not in charge of the fan anymore so maybe they go back there.

Adding skin to the fan would give the fan two mavericks big timers with fisher and skin. Something that station lacks.

I can't tolerate their football idiocy and gave up on Ben and skin long ago, especially since they bow down to Deion sanders.

If they end up at the fan and Ben Rogers ends up in some way as part of the cowboys game day broadcast its going to be terrible. Shaun shariff and richie Whitt are already shoved down our throat for three hours during the pregame and Marc elfenbein for the post game. It's bad enough already.

I actually like Ben. I think he is alright. Skin is terrible though. He says the dumbest jokes and the people around him sound like they feel forced that they have to laugh at that.

Who thinks Skin is funny? What on earth does he bring to a radio show or broadcast?

Bottom line.

Ben and skin and elf and slater both moved to sports radio from there actual careers. They are not sports radio or radio people by trade.

They all have a fall back and can go back to there actual original careers if they have to I imagine.

That is why I don't feel bad disliking both of those shows so much, they actually had good careers before, or at least a job. It's not sports radio or nothing.

Which probably explains why they just are not as good as the ticket guys who are all actual radio people sans Danny ballis I guess.

And now ESPN does a ton of it. They try to copy The Ticket constantly, and fail miserably. I wish they'd just stick to being an alternative.

The Ticket is being copycatted, unsuccessfully, nationwide. As they like to say, "We can do what they do, but they can't do what we do." They're right.

I'm a more serious sports fan than most, so I do turn over to the ESPN on a busy sports day. Sometimes I don't want the schtict if there's newsy sports to talk about.

But on a day like today, when basketball and hockey are in the dog days of the season and football and baseball aren't in season yet, it's a great time for The Ticket.

It's modeled as a "guy" station, so it's about sports/music/entertainment/girls, mixed in with a lot of jokes. That carries ratings year-round, not just during Cowboys season.

Plus, they have Gordon Keith, whom I'm convinced could be on SNL if he wanted, or at least be a national comedic star. What he does is rare by any standard, and for some reason, he seems to want to keep it local. I'm glad he does. Brilliant, brilliant mind.

The rest are well-fitted, but not in Keith's league. They've known each other for a long time, and you can tell, so the conversations are more natural and organic. ESPN has the typical canned and forced "radio voices", and the chemistry is fake other than Ben & Skin, who grew up together.

Ian Fitzsimmons at ESPN is the epitome of what is wrong with sports radio guys. Blathers on and on about nothing, knows nothing, and just loves to hear his deep voice in the headphones. He's as empty as it gets. ESPN caters to those kinds.

Don't really see the appeal in local sports radio. This forum lets you get your Cowboys news whenever you want and has people more knowledgeable about the team than random local sports journalists spewing out random opinions. If there isn't some kind of insight coming from a player, former player, coach, or something along those lines, the stuff I generally hear is gibberish.
