I think we have things a bit backwards. We're running to set up the pass, when we should be passing to set up the run and closing out games once we have leads. As a result we're in this close games throughout and have to hope the defense closes things out at the end.

This is absolute nonsense. The only reason we've had some close wins is because of boneheaded turnovers. Houston and Seattle would have been blowouts if not for stupid turnovers. Has nothing to do with "running to set up the pass."

Isn't that the approach we used from 2011-2013?

I'm inclined to agree with you. This team is built on ball control. If we establish the run, control the clock, set up the pass, we win. If we lose another game, I can almost guarantee it will be because we did not do those things. If turnovers give the other team a big lead and we have to get pass happy, abandoning the run, then we probably don't win.

Why not? Romo has had to come from behind most of his career.

I would agree here...Dallas has breached 30 points in each of their past two games, in spite of the fact that they have committed turnovers in each one. If it ain't broke, don't fix it...that would be my approach...averaging 30 ppg ain't really bad when your defense is only giving up about 21 ppg. If they put 30 on Washington, they will be on pace to come perilously close [454] to the 455 points they amassed in the '07 campaign. Not saying it will happen, but the offense is rolling pretty well right now.

No. Osweiler is going to be a decent QB in this league. Weeden over Osweiler? Really?

It's not a matter of Weeden over Osweiler. It's a matter of our system minus Romo versus their system minus Manning. My point is their system would be crippled more. Weeden can step into fill Romo shoes much easier that Osweiler can fill Mannings.

The Broncos are scoring more touchdowns but they're also punting A LOT more -- they're fourth-worst in possessions ending in punts and second-worst in going three-and-out. The Broncos' offense has been boom-or-bust -- they fizzle quickly a lot, but if they start driving and get inside the 40, they're probably going to score a touchdown. The net effect, however, is slightly fewer points per possession than we've scored.

It's not like we're struggling to score, you know. We're No. 2 in the league in points per possession, we have the third-highest TD percentage in the league, and we're seventh in red-zone TD percentage.

There is a difference in the defenses. They are first in offense and 7th in defense. We are 3rd and 14th or 5th and 9th depending on who you read. But we have scored 196 and given up 147. They have scored 224 though and given up 142 so the biggest difference is in the offenses on paper. I tend to agree with you though. I don't see a huge difference in the two teams.

Manning QB rating is 119, Romo's is 105. Both are excellent, however, Manning's is within reach of Rodger's all time record of 122.

Passer rating is what you're referring to. QB rating is an espn stat (often stated as QBR) that runs on a scale from 0 to 100. Just a little distinction lots of people don't know about

I live in Denver. Went to 4 or 5 Bronco games last year and actually got a season ticket this year so have been to all their home games. They are a distant second team to the Cowboys for me but I do enjoy watching them play.

Two main differences for me are that Denver really struggles for a run game. Montee Ball got nothing going before his injury and although it's got better in the last 2 games, they still really have to work to get 100 yards a game. A really good defense can make the Denver offense very one dimensional, and if you can pressure Manning you can end up with their superbowl performance from last year.

The second difference is Manning. With enough time, he is absolutely different class. He throws passes I just can't believe. And he does it a lot. A LOT. Romo is good but Manning? sheesh. If they were cars, Romo would be a Mercedes and Manning a Bugatti Veyron.

The Denver D is better this year, they hit hard, their linebackers fly to the ball and their corners cover well.

They have manning, but overall I feel our offense is better balanced, due to Murray being the first option on our offense. It gets hard winning through the air in the play-offs, even if you're Peyton Manning.

And the 2013 Broncos. If we play the Broncos, the key to beating them is to make them play our game, which is ball control. We run the ball. We win time of possession. Manning stands on the sidelines for the better part of the game, getting cold. Our defense rests and doesn't wear out. Our defense gets turnovers. If we play then like that, we win. If we play Mannings game, which is pass happy shoot-out, we lose. We nearly beat them at their own game last year, but you just don't beat Peyton Manning at his own game. Force him to play your game. That's what the Seahawks did.

Of course, if we end up talking about this for real, that's awesome because it means we're in the Super Bowl. Of course I'm not going to count my hatchlings before they've chickened. The Super Bowl is a long ways away and a lot of football has to be played to determine who's in it. Neither team might be in it. Or it could be the Broncos versus the Eagles in which case I'll be screaming for Manning and team to win.

Good Lord, if the Eagles are playing the Broncos in the SuperBowl I might have to go buy a Peyton Manning jersey....................LOL

While I'm usually not one to buy into conspiracy theories, I get the feeling that the NFL really wants to see Peyton win another ring.

If we end up playing Denver in the SuperBowl, I wonder which team will get most of the calls....................LOL

Anybody remember the Pittsburgh and Seattle SB................yea, just insert Denver in place of Pittsburgh and Dallas in place of Seattle..................just saying:)

The Broncos don't kick field goals. Though they've had a bye, they've only attempted 8 field goals all season compared to our 15. They've scored 6 more touchdowns than us.

Dan Bailey is a weapon, but we've hurt ourselves, missing out on touchdowns that would have helped seal games much earlier.

The Broncos don't do this, and we're going to need to get on that level.

I'm hoping that this offense becomes even more efficient as the season goes on, and that we start utilizing more of our weapons to facilitate that efficiency.

I honestly think this might be a result of an over reliance on the run. And to head off those who can't understand nuance, I'm not suggesting giving up on the run, rather to shift the balance slightly towards the pass when the situations call for it.

I feel like this offense is only operating at about 65-70 percent efficiency. Not until we get guys like Dunbar, Beasley, and Escobar more involved, will we see this offense really open up completely.

I think we have weapons that Denver doesn't have, that no team has.

We need to start getting the scoring going in the 1st quarter. We're 19th in the NFL in points in the 1st quarter, even though we're 2nd in the nfl in 1st quarter TOP.

We're top 10 in every other quarter.

I think we have things a bit backwards. We're running to set up the pass, when we should be passing to set up the run and closing out games once we have leads. As a result we're in this close games throughout and have to hope the defense closes things out at the end.

They're also 14th in time of possession compared to our 2nd. Not saying they're not on paper a better football team but, I don't see Denver beating us up unless we beat ourselves. It'll take us making those stupid mistakes. We've certainly showed we're capable of playing both sides of that coin. Seattle showed just how to beat Denver. Control the clock, force some 3 n outs and put them on their heels.

That's a bit deceptive. You take out one bad half of football, and Romo is right up there.

Every week we get a little bit better. If we played Denver tomorrow then yeah I'd bet we lose. But with the way our team is progressing we could be just as unstoppable going into the playoffs. And don't forget Denver played great last year, until the super bowl.

I disagree with needing to to lean towards the pass more than what they are doing now. I would like to see the ball spread around a bit more though. Also I think we all know if needed the offense can crank it up if the game becomes a shootout.

Unfortunately all world Mr Manning is due for his 2nd SB Trophy. Just seems like the ending to this script has already been written. IMO it would take a defense like Seattles defense of last year to wrestle it away from him, does that defense exist this year...I don't know.
