Not much of an answer. Lot of uncertainty

Can Denver trade Melo in a S&T over the summer?

Larry Coon: What if S&T goes away in the new agreement. It's one of the reasons salaries are overinflated. It's like a credit line, helping a consumer buy something he really can't afford.

I'm almost certain LeBron and Bosh exercised ETO, so melo could be a part of a S&T

and yea, owners won't be able to roll back salaries w/o a fight, but some owners are losing money (or so they say), and I can see a 5% drop. To many averege players like RGay and JJohnson with 100 mil deals

“He’s going to be very good," Karl said of the 19-year-old Favors. “Obviously they’ve done a good job with him coaching-wise. Whoever has gotten him under control — his seals; his reads; his rolls, his interpretation of NBA basketball — has gotten better every week.

He’s a big strong kid and he can rebound the ball," Karl continued. “He’ll be a good defender. He might be a great defender. And I think he’ll figure out offense as the game goes on."

Carmelo Anthony wouldn’t say he would have signed a contract extension with the Nets if he had ended up being traded to New Jersey, but he sounded as though he might have.

“I really don’t know where it came from, as far as if I was to come here, the extension wasn’t going to get signed," Anthony said. "I don’t know who stated that. It’s a lot of things being said out there I don’t know where they came from — 'sources,' I guess. As far as the extension if that trade was to go through, who knows what would happen? I can’t really answer that because it didn’t go through.

Everyone thinks he would ultimately sign, but to me this sounds like hes only squelching the rumors that he wouldnt sign to regain power of his inner-circle. Sounds like hes still anti-snitching.

Hes towing this weird line in letting the Nets know hes not super-interested and not cutting them off completely in case the Nuggets hold out for the big fish(Favors)

Sounds like a good idea for the bet. You go to a Nets game in a clown suit. Tickets are about 2 bucks

FWIW, it seems that Denver wants to avoid the luxary tax. By dealing melo and having a third team absorb Eddy Curry's contract, they save about 14 mil in payroll, which keeps them from paying 14 mil to the luxary tax (will need to save about $250,000 after buying out Sebastian Telfair or Kelenna Azubuike). Which equals $28 mil in savings and add to that what ever the payout for teams under the luxary tax is, and that may be what melo is worth.

Edit: 14 mil if we take on Al Harrington in exchange for Kelenna

You do realize the sig bet was not that he ends up with the Knicks, but that he gets traded to NJ and signs an extension? At this point, it's not happening. One of 3 things is gonna happen

1- Melo gets traded to NY for a packaged headlined by Wilson Chandler
2- Melo gets traded to NY for a package of Wilson Chandler, Danillio Gallanari and Landry Fields (2 out of 3 or all 3)
3- Denver doesn't trade him and hope he resigns in the offseason

And I'll take option 3 over 2, if we have to trade Wilson Chandler, Danilio Gallanari, Landry Fields as well as Timofey Mozgov and a first (acquired by trading Anthony Randolf), then I'd rather go into the offseason and attempt to sign him then. That way we likely only lose Wilson Chandler (rights renounced), Anthony Randolf (traded for cap space) and Ronnie Turiaf (traded for cap space)

The Knicks have no deal worth it to the Nuggets.

W/ all the money Melo would be losing he would probably just re-sign w/ them and the Nuggets can take it from there.

Itll happen if our owner swallows his pride

the amount of money Melo would lose is complete speculation. If Max contracts remain the same 30%, he could get the same money via a sign and trade.

How much he loses will only truly be known when a new CBA is agreed upon, but it could easily be nothing.

Would you risk it? Ric Bucher thinks it could be almost $50M.

The Knicks are sexier, but not by that much.

The Nuggets could just sign him to an extension and keep looking for trades over the summer. W/ Melo locked up it opens up the possibility for all the other teams

I guess it comes down to how much you want to win. I've never heard $50 mil, but by the time we know the amount, it will likely be too late to sign the extension cause I assume he will have to opt out before the league year (and current CBA) end.

Win what? The Knicks are a 1-man show. Of course you get a star whenever the opportunity arises but Melo/Amare isnt going to compete for a title or anything.

Bucher said $50M b/c he has heard the max would be $11M per season. So he would opt out and be making $33M over 3 years as opposed to a $65M extension on top of his $18M hes scheduled to make next year.

Melo has said a couple of times he would sign an extension no matter what. If the Nuggets dont trade him at all I think he will sign it w/ them on the belief that they will try to trade him over the summer. No promises of it being the Knicks, but they will try and engage.

Yeah, right now, we're a one man show, but if we add Melo we take a huge step forward. Enough to make us equal to Miami, Boston or LA, no not yet, but we'll be a notch below them.

As far as melo saying he would sign an extension no matter what, he's also said he's willing to risk not signing one.

"The Carmelo Anthony trade saga is finally over.
The Nuggets traded Melo to the New York Knicks tonight, a league source said. Denver gets Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, the Knicks 2014 first-round draft pick, the Warriors' 2012 second-round pick, the Warriors' 2013 second-round pick and $3 million in cash.
Anthony will go to New York, along with Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman"
