Frankly i think Jarwin is H-back more than he is a TE.
He's more of a buffed up big WR than he is an pile moving TE.
With Garrett era, maybe he was expected to be Geoff Swaim " combo " blocker as with Witten, Hanna, Swaim, and selective others, Garrett expected his TEs to be dual receive/in-line blockers, such that
he requires them to occasionally pass block DEs in line,.. and that's when i've seen Blake get blown up and
air-lifted up into the air.
That's why i think the MM era will have to limit and scheme his keys and blocking assignments to what he
can better handle physically. Now he will have to be an acceptable " position-shield blockers but It's his catching ability and movement skills that is gonna be his strengths and the part of his game that is gonna help this team the most.
Cole Hikutini had 50 catches his final college season. What if Jarwin gets injured? Are we taking all 12 personnel out of our playbook and just blocking with our TE?
As constructed the front office has decided to allocate elite, top three money at QB, RB, WR and G. Their best bet to land such a player is through the draft process. The current top three TE's were not first round selections (Kelce, Ertz, Kittle).
We have no idea how Jarwin will produce with starter reps. We do know he offers far more better run after the catch skills then last year's version of Jason Witten.
We also have three inter-changeable WR's, each could play in the slot and become very difficult match-ups, especially Cooper. Playing three wr sets, should also open up the team's rushing attack.
We aren't sure how much action the TE position will be apart of MM's WC offense.
Since his rookie season, Witten's low was 63 catches and that was in 2019. He averaged 79 over that period. His high was 110.
Best season in terms of number of catches for each of these Green Bay TEs (with MM as HC):
Donald Lee: 48
Jermichael Finley: 61
Andrew Quarless: 32
Richard Rodgers: 58
Jared Cook: 30
Jimmy Graham: 55

I like jarwins play and he definitely flashed. But a guy who only played 25% of the snaps and never started got a 4 year deal at 5.5 aav which in scale of tight ends is not very expensive bottom half in the league. I just want to see him in a bigger role and i hope he balls out because if he plays like i think he can we will have an absolute stealThere’s some plays in there Jarwin makes that Witten couldn’t due to lack of athleticism.
I’ve never understood the dislike by Jarwin by some. If he was a 5th/6th round pick people would be clamoring for him. Instead, he was a rookie free agent so people crap on him.
H-back?
Tony Gonzalez was not a wow blocker.
Green Bay TEs (The #1 TE in Green Bay were generally not wow blockers)
Jermichael Finley
Jared Cook
Andrew Quarless
Jimmy Graham
Thought topic was on Jarwin not Zeke.Earn that money young man!
All the rumors today about trading for Njoku are silly. I wouldn't give up assets for a receiving TE when we already have our receiving TE. Compiled some of Jarwins 10+yard catches. Just goes to show how ridiculously underutilized he was in favor or JG's friend Jason Witten.
Cole Hikutini had 50 catches his final college season.
Final College Seasons:
Blake Jarwin 19
Sean McKeon 13 (he only played 7 games. He did have 31 the season he played 12 games)
Blake Bell 16
Total 48
Dalton Schultz 22 his final college season. 55 total.

The only thing Blake can trip over now is himself since Witten is no longer on the team. I see Mr. Jarwin having a great year if his health holds up.Earn that money young man!
I know but you talkin about 2018 and we knew he made an impact then and a lot of us wanted to see that momentum carry into 2019. In 2019 he only rans route 27% of the time. Yes i blame the jones' and garrett for the witten disasterJarwin played 39% of the offensive snaps in 2019.
In the final 6 games of 2018 he averaged 85% of the snaps.
He had 4 games in 2018 that he played 100% of the snaps.
Garrett was going to start Witten and play him for a majority of the snaps in 2019. It would not matter if prime Rob Gronkowski was on the roster.
Yeah I missed that. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do as the starter. He's a freak athleteI don't remember this being discussed previously.
Blake Jarwin signed a four year, $22 million contract with the Cowboy on March 16, 2020. Jarwin received $9.25 million in guarantees, $6.25 million of which is fully guaranteed at signing. The full guarantee consists of a $4 million signing bonus and Jarwin's 2020 base salary. If Jarwin is on the roster on the 5th day of the 2021 league year his 2021 base salary will be guaranteed. There are an additional $2.25 million in contract escalators.
Not to mention Bell and Schultz available.
I see things shifting to the TE to be more involved in run blocking and pass blocking and safety valve receiving.
With the addition of Lamb that suggests more slot receiving passing which means less TE passing attack. More 3 and 4 WR sets and spreading the defense and running Zeke more with our OL.
I just think Jarwin is really average and could not beat Witten and Rico Gaither even was challenging Jarwin. Even Swaim before his injury had moved a head of Jarwin.
Not exactly stiff competition.
Jarwin catches a couple of passes in broken defensive coverage and people go nuts for him becuz they want Witten gone so bad.
I would like to see a lot more.
My point of about Jarwin not beating out the competion.I agree with you about wanting to see more with Jarwin, and that's what Jarwin will have a chance to show this year. It's his position to sink or swim with.
As for seeing the TE position shift to more blocking and safety valve receiving, that's what's what it has been with Witten for several years, so that wouldn't be a shift. Besides, the upside with Jarwin has largely been his greater ability to get downfield and to run after the catch than Witten.
That said, you are right that having Lamb may cut into the TE's passes, but talking about 3 WR sets doesn't mean anything because there will still be a TE in the game in those sets, and even in 4 WR sets Jarwin may well be the 4th guy spread out at times. Another point is that Bell and Schultz aren't likely to get many TE passes, so Jarwin should still get a reasonable share of targets.
As for Jarwin not being able to "beat Witten and Rico Gathers" (whatever "beat" means"), Jarwin was given a nice contract, while Witten was not offered a new contract, and Gathers was released 2 years ago and only caught 3 total passes anyway, so what exactly is your point based on?
