Mazi could still be valuable; but I doubt he will ever be worth a first rd pick

This entire post is so wrong. He wasn't expected to come in and look like Randy White in his prime.

If you did truly expected Mazi to come in and "contribute seriously in his first year" then your expectations were out of whack before the season even started.
Can only imagine what this board would have done to Randy White his first two years! He looks slow, he’s lost, he has no instincts for the ball, a waste of a #1 pick, his mustasche is stupid, we shoulda kept Craig Morton and on and on and on! Gotta love it…

Then there are the famous busts like Taco and others that the fans pretty much knew right away and the coaches kept trying...

They were due to bust a first rounder.

Especially drafting near the bottom of a weak draft.

Unfortunately the first round of the draft is the only way this team attempts to improve every year.

You’re not gonna hit enough picks to be good enough using that alone. Thats not even a knock on the idiot twins….no one can or ever has had that rate of draft success. That’s the most frustrating part….other than them acting as if they are outsmarting the rest of the league at the annual Oxnard Jerry show.

Yall want Mazi to be a bust so bad lol. Truly a sickness. This fan sickness must be Jerry's fault too
No one wants him to be a bust. DT is going to be an issue again next year if Mazi can’t put it together.

PFF graded him the worst player on the field against GB and there were 53 really bad players that Sunday.

People judge rookies way too hard. Sometimes it takes a year or two for the light to come on so labeling Mazi a bust after 1 year seems premature. If we're sitting here at the end of next year and it doesn't look like he can atleast be a solid rotational piece than I would say judgement will be more warranted.

Lets see what a full offseason does in helping him with technqiue and building more strength.

Of course nobody wants him to bust. I just would like to have seen some improvement as the season wore on. It just didnt happen. Forget the PFF grades. The freak athleticism never seemed to transfer and more importantly for a guy his size, he seemed to get handled with relative ease. Honestly they need to go out and find the Duke Mayweather of D line coaches, tear it down to the studs, and try and build it back up.

Exactly right. Not a luxury in the instant gratification society we live in.
Lmao at instant gratification society

Did you see not see the Packers run the ball down our throats last Sunday?
This is the best chance the Cowboys had to win. He was a non factor this year.

You’re not allowed to complain about the Cowboys being one and done if you think spending the first round pick on a long term project was a good idea.

I don't really like the Taco comps. If Mazi busts it will be for completely different reasons. Similar to alot of DT's that bust: He is just doesnt turn into what you hoped he would projected.

Taco had some periods of solid play in the NFL. His problem was his attitude and work ethic were so bad, no one wanted him around. He gets 5 sacks in 5 starts with Miami and they cut him. Considering the lack of talent that team had at that time, that says alot
Good points. Plus Taco was a DE.
Taco could play terrible (give up outside containment) and still grab an occasional sack.

I'm sorry but this dude showed nothing and is a surefire bust. The one thing he was supposed to be good at, he was awful at. Don't really care about the learning curve. 'Big and strong and fast' shouldn't get routinely destroyed. At some point, those natural skills should show in some form or fashion but they didn't--not once.
Strength and athleticism did not show at all.
In fact, on his only sack of the season, he did not have enough strength to pull down the QB. The officials blew the whistle and stopped the play. That was a bad omen.

I liked the Mazi pick when it happened.

His first season was very very bad.

Just have to hope he turns it around and gets better.
