why play a rookie when you dont have to. remember a lot of big runs came against us last year when we played the less experienced guys at lb.

But i dont think its a wasted 1st round pic at all. what if akin or james gets hurt, we'll be glad the cowboys have carp. you HAVE to have a lot of LB's to play a 3-4 defense.

Parcells has said repeatedly how he covets that inside/outside/nickel LBer...Carpenter is being groomed to be that guy.

We are fortunate that we are in a position that we can take it slow with him, just remember all those who are thinking bust, when he can line up at any spot, on any down, and play well.

The 3-4 is about fooling the offense, and think about what a weapon a guy who can stuff the run inside, rush the passer, and drop into coverage can be.

then we shouldn't have picked a LB with our 1st pick then.

That's fine and dandy, but the other OLB spot was sort ofvacant last year. Remember, we didn't really have a way to hide the 4th rusher.

Ellis wasn't expected to transition like this. And with Burnett we had no idea what we had. It was a good pick at the time, but could have been used on a nother position in hindsight.

But remember, you can't really judge a draft after 3 weeks.

i just think bp "overcovets" this position and went back to a "familiar past" he's done before to take the kid. nothing agianst him, i hope he can and will be worth that pick. just not sold on drafting players we don't need to hope one day they'll pan out.

Dang we are going to break our arms patting ourselves on the back. You can spin it any way you want, but when a 1st rounder is perfectly healthy and he's not deemed good enough to suit up on Sundays, it's a disappointment.

Agreed. He should be able to beat someone, any of our LBs out. He is having problems beating out undrafted LBs to dress. You can't spin that, our LBs are good, but not that good.

On draft day we had no idea Ellis could play OLB.

On draft day we didn't know how well Akin could be in the 3-4.

On draft day we didn't know if we could get another year out of Singleton.

On draft day we did not know if we could extend James' contract or not.

On draft day we had no idea if Burnett would be healthy, stay healthy, or play well.

So just where WASN'T THAT NEED AGAIN?;)

on draft day we screwed up

See the above post...on draft day Carpenter was absolutely the right choice and down the road, when he's a pro bowl player, it will be obvious to all.

now let's apply the same logic to the OL. i'd say you could make an argument there also.

again, i'm not bagging on carpenter. we've got him i hopes he does in fact turn out to be a player. but to see a 1st round pick do nothing for 3 games is just going to draw it's share of ?'s.

I have no problem with Carpenter being inactive and not seeing the field much this year.

The defense has so much quality that now when you are drafted, it is not a gurantee that you will start.

On draft day we had Ware and a bunch of ??????????????????????????? for the future at LB. We spent money on OL in free agency and there wasn't a really good option at OL when we picked anyway, so as I said, Carpenter was the right choice for what we knew on draft day.

We have had a horse shoe up our butt at LB with Burnett getting healthy, Ellis adjusting to LB, James re-signing etc...we cut Boiman, traded Shanle too because our depth BECAME a strength...IT WASN'T ON DRAFT DAY.

I love how people forget the facts of the situation when they gripe in hindsight. Good teams don't need to have their draft picks play a lot right away...this is a good thing, try to remember that.;)

He's not good enough at this point to put on the uniform on Sunday. Who knows how he will end up. Its to early to call him a bust, but that being said. How in the heck can you be excited that he can't even get on the field? If you are not disappointed by that you are delusional. Like I said we should start passing out slings. There's going to be a ton of sore arms in here.

I don't understand it ... a first rounder can't get on the field? Why did we draft him ???

Don't tell me he was the BPA ... so good we couldn't pass up.

Why move an OLB inside? MLF's ... I mean, MLB's are a dime a dozen.

I hate to agree with the blind one : but he makes good sense here. We went FA to fix the O line and had huge question marks at LB. The draft made sense. For us he was TBAP

Should end that argument right here and now.

wow, i guess since i just said it - ME?

was this a trick question?

Oh, well if it's just you then carry on.

I thought someone who bore some significance to decision making may have said this and you may have been repeating it.

You just sounded so certain about what you were saying, but I get the feeling that you're not getting the big picture, which is that we take the guys who can make the most significant impact on the TEAM.

As someone else as stated, it doesn't matter where you got drafted at. It should depend on how much you help the team .. and what you're capable of doing on game day.

So, he was a first round pick. That doesn't mean that he's up to speed as much as the veterans who weren't 1st round picks.

I'm very happy with the LBs that we have now. I saw a very strong LB unit out there today.

Oh, and don't forget about the uncertainty of the Greg Ellis situation....it's good to see that working out well, even if it means that our first round pick doesn't suit up

We win 45-14 ... and gosh darnit! We should have suited up Carpenter ...

Didn't Bradie James have 1 tackle his rookie year or something? Now look at him. Get some perspective, people.
