Book it.. We will trade for Roy Williams and get Terry back.

Which is still a bargain compared to $20+ million in bonuses paid to all those 1st round failure WRs Millen has drafted and released since he became Detroit's GM.

Sorry it is actually around 9.5, I originally looked at 2007 WR CAP numbers. Those got blown away with a few of the signings this off season.

I just dont see how we can afford to pay another WR 7-8 million a year while still being able to sign Ware, Canty and Colombo.

I agree with you on needing to resign those other guys. As far as Detroit and Millen are concerned, I was referring to actual dollars versus cap dollars. Detroit paid Charles Rogers alone, a signing bonus of over $10 million. Mike Williams got $13.5 million. Here, they have a guy in Roy Williams that actually catches passes, and they may trade him or let him become a FA.

I just don't get it. (I don't get how Millen still has his job either)

That is a valid point, why draft top WRs in the first round like that if you dont have a plan in place to pay them down the line? Definately a head scratcher.

With us being this close to opening day, & our #3,4,& 5 WRs out with various injuries, there is no way JJ goes into Sept. 7th with the receiver corps in this condition.
If we can trade with the Cards for Bolden, then get either/or Jamaica Rector or Jerheme Urban, both of whom have been in our system, it would really help to settle down the situation until some players got healthy again.

The average of the 5 highest paid WRs in the NFL.

That means Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Javon Walker and Marvin Harrison kind of money. 10 large per year at least.

No way they do that.

If they can't keep Roy and Johnson with their average roster, how are we gonna be able to sign Roy and Owens? That's the same situation isn't it? And we haven't gone vanilla anywhere but depth at WR.

I have come to the conclusion that Millen has pictures of the owners with ducks, dogs AND horses. Its the only way he has been able to stay.

You doubting Jerry and Stephen?

You need to look closer at Johnson's signing bonus and the cap implications of it. They have not managed the cap well. We have. When you do there are more options. They don't have many.

Also, we can sign him for any contract he'd agree to. That's different than a Franchise tag offer type of contract.

He will take less to play here. No that is not a guess.

If I were playing Madden Id offer Scandrick, Hurd, Carpenter and a 1st. Id make a similar offer for Boldin.

You can only offer three things in a Madden trade...that's one too many for Madden, dude. :)

You think Millen would allow Barbie through the door in Detroit? I know Millen's not the SHARPEST knife in the drawer but he's not ********!

Actually I think its an insult to retards in general to compare Millen to them.

So obviously we wouldn't cut this many WR's and go into the season like this. Hurd will be gone for a while, Austin maybe longer than 2 weeks depending on his recovery, and Stanback is back week 1!!!! Great we now have an unproven receiver ready to go for week 1 transferring from QB in College to a must need position for us.

Jerry isn't stupid. Glenn will be back, Romo and him both have chemestry to a point.

Now on the other side look how many DB's we kept. I think Jerry will package a deal to Detroit with the DB's, maybe a LB (Carpenter) and a pick(s).

Come one, Detroit couldn't be that stupid, could they? Roy will be gone next year. He is a #1 type receiver not liking it there, wanting to be in Texas.

Your thoughts?

I could shot myself about 7 times in each knee and still have better knees than TG so I think we should pass on him. I think we should just wait on RW if he really wants to be a cowboy he will come to us no need to give up draft picks although free agency is expensive a player of his caliber would cost a lot.

I think anyone would take less to win, even Randy did it.

However, if I've learned anything from Adam, it's that there are a billion ways to massage the cap.

Whether they want to keep him long term is another thing, or if he says he won't sign long term or will hold out, but I don't think money would stop them from franchising Williams if they really wanted to.

You're right though, I haven't looked at the Lions numbers, I don't really care about their cap situation so who knows, maybe you're right and it's impossible for them to franchise him.

I'm not saying it is impossible. I am saying it is improbable. They openly admit they will focus on being a running team. Then why have 2 of the highest paid WRs in the NFL? We on the other hand are a passing team. He is a native Texan who has always been a Cowboys fan. He told his agent, "get me to Dallas."

If Detroit wants to maximize his worth to them, their best option is to trade him. Otherwise they are stuck one of two ways.

A. They will simply lose him to Free Agency and get nothing.

B. They will Franchise him, have 2 extremely high paid WRs, and a run the ball first Philosophy.

Trading him is the only option they have that makes any sense. Can Millen and the Head Coach see it? That remains the stumbling block.

If they tried to franchise him wouldn't that be 12 mill against their cap. IDK what they could do with his salary after they tag him however put a tag on a WR is very expensive.

still waiting for Stanback to break out... how long do we have to wait before he's labeled a bust or never-was?

Where have you been? If a Cowboys player is not an immediate superstar he is labeled a bust. There have been hundreds of posts about Stanback being a bust.

I'll put money on TG happening, wish RW was, won't though. We'll be more than fine regardless. We are going to have a nice running game this year, that will loosen up the coverage for Eldorado and Witten. I've said it before, I don't want to take 20 -30 opportunities to catch the ball away from Witten. I'd take Ownes and Witten over a Moss and Welker any day. Owens and Witten maybe even over Fitzgerald and Boldin on a 1-2 pass catching combo. We have a # 1 and 2 option that are both formidable is all I'm trying to say. especially if our running game plays to it's potential.

I give four weeks before Jerry starts to look for a trade partner to get a WR to see if we can actually get by with only three WR's.. but last year we basically had the same options to pass to with T.O., crayton, and Witten, and it worked... until the playoffs.

But we have Felix Jones this time, and I guarantee we will see Jones lining up to catch some passes or be on the field at the same time as MBIII. He will definitely stretch the field more than Crayton or hurd ever would.
