Bottom Line Roy Williams Is The Best Safety In The NFL!!!

I know.. lets not ever give him credit for any of the good he does and continually harp on the few mistakes he makes.

Its more popular to rag on the Cowboys players when you're a Cowboys fan anyway. At least it seems that way a lot of times.

I'll never understand why Cowboys fans have so little appreciation for the players that play for "their team".

Apparently you didn't watch Sean Taylor yesterday.

Best? No

Top 3? Yes

I can agree with this. I would say it like this rather:

Best? Possibly

Top 3? DEFINITELY

And this is referring to the 2006 season as there have been LOTS of very good safeties over the past few years.

GO TO NFL.COM FOR PROOF!!!
If you check out the pro bowl voting for strong safeties he has more int's and pass deflections than any other strong safeties, and among all safties in the league including reed, dawkings, polamolu, EVERYONE!! he leads all safeties in pass deflections and is tied with adrian wilson and polamolu for the lead with 3 interceptions.

So my point is that obviously he might make some errors but so do all of these guys but he also has been making more plays in coverage then these guys also and not to mention no one else cant even tie his sneakers when it comes to hitting.

So roy williams may very well be the most complete safety in football the numbers dont lie league lead in pass deflections and int's = GOOD COVERAGE in my book. just my thoughts.

:hammer:

and what the stats don't show is that Roy makes as many mistakes as any safety

I'd take Ed Reed and probably Troy Polamalu over him

why in God's name would you do that?

That's the same thing I'm wondering. Polamalu is WAY WORSE in coverage than Roy.

I cant say that he is absolutely the best or not. I do not get to see some of the other safties play much.

I am more than inclined to say that all safeties are safeties for a reason. If they were excellent cover people they would be cornerbacks IMO.

I have been very critical of RW (Not on the board though), but after seeing safety after safety getting scorched I realized that it happens to all safeties a time or two...three...four...or more throughout the year.

If you ask Commander fans they will tell you that Taylor is excellent in coverage. If Taylor is excellent in coverage then Roy W is the Deion Sanders of strong safeties.

I think none of the rational Commanders fans (oxymoron?) think that Taylor is as great as advertised. That few that post over here regulary (SkinnsandTerps, and JoeGibbswhateversig) have noted that they don't like Taylor that much.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Williams is the best safety in the game, but he's up there.

To be honest, a guy who has kind of fallen off in terms of hype is Brian Dawkins. I think he might be the best in the business in all honesty.

And no, Safeties are sometimes Safeties for more reasons than just their coverage ability. Most of them are alot bigger than corners. It's a different position entirely.

hell, take it a step further

he's near the LOS 70% of the time as compared to Roy being in coverage that much

Not as much as Ed Reed and Sean Taylor who have both given up more TD's than Roy this season.

:)

Based on Dawkins stats from last season.. he was the best Safety in the league last season. No other safety in the league was as good all around statistically in 2005... he led A LOT of the categories.

I didn't check the stats, but I guess that further backs up my point.

Dawkins is a lights out hitter. He's great in coverage. The dude is just a stud safety. He's also the heart of that defense (maybe Trotter)

another thing people needs to realize is how these guys are being utilized brian dawkins has a d-coordinator thats 20 times better than are who have guys like trent cole 4th round pick and average corners like lito sheppard and sheldon brown and guys like matt mcoy on his defense and makes them look like stars.

Zimmer has mostly 1st round picks and just dont utilize his personel well.
If roy played for jim johnson with that blitzing defense or for lambeu in pittsburgh he'd be without a doubt the best safety which he is now, and still makes as just as many plays as them with the worlds most conservative coordinator.

If dawkins had to play here and baby sit a free safety all day make up for henry getting burned, and the lack of pressure 75% of the time, and play for the cowboys (which in the media world is a strike against you!) he'd be under this scrunity too.

Pro Bowl voting is a joke, look at Terence Newman not making it yet.... Roy Williams is a good safety not a great one and I certainly don't believe he's the best in the NFL, that honor goes to either Ed Reed or Troy P. right now.

Dawkins is still THE MAN at safety in the NFL and has been for quite a few years. That being said, he's getting up there in age and his production will start to drop off a bit in the years to come.
