Brandt Says Roy Williams Could be Cut

Couldnt you at least trade him?

if a thousand literary geniouses all got together and typed soley about the roy williams topic for a year, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and for 365 days of that year, not even taking xmas off and tagging and out for bathroom breaks -

Williams is already out on passing situations so you are only missing him for running downs. What is the big worry?

millions of cowboy fans and retread journalists would have to find another player to make their whipping boy. seems you're just not a complete team w/o one.

Watkins and Brown (and even Anthony Henry) I believe play free safety. With Keith Davis now gone, the only other experienced strong safey on the roster that I know of is Ken Hamlin who happens to be our starting free safety right now!

Believe me.....I loved this guy...and thought he was one of the best defensive players I ever saw in college. But he doesn't have it anymore. There is nothing wrong with letting go. Look at Julius Jones...perfect example!

Mac Engel said the same thing a few months ago. Roy will be given every opportunity to improve, but his excuses are getting tiresome. Time to produce or be gone.

I think Roys only problem is his skin is to thin for the hack Dallas media and the ADD infected Cowboy fans.

I mean you are talking about the same media who tore down Troy Aikman and the same fans who booed Troy during the offseason at a basketball game.

Would not surprise me at all if Roy wanted to get away from all that.

difference between Julius and Roy is Roy is still productive. Care to explain how he "wiffs" tackles, this should be good for a laugh or two

If you suck and you get paid a lot, then what's wrong with cutting you loose?

As of right now however, Roy shouldn't be cut because ultimately he is no longer a big piece in our championship puzzle. He is merely a pawn on our extremely stacked roster and even if he isn't as good as he could be, he doesn't hurt us as much, as opposed to 2-3 years ago. Our team defense is predicated on being very aggressive and always in attack mode.

With that being said, there's no point in wasting a roster spot and sitting him on the bench if he's not up to task, this is why you would cut him. So, give him a chance--and if he doesn't show you anything then let him go. A big part of me feels that he's been working his butt off to try to prove his doubters wrong. Let's hope my feeling is right.

and it's why i just don't watch that much anymore or post like i used to. nothing new, just trying to rehash the same things we all know. hearing pacma...adam's performance blow by blow is just annoying.

roy williams is just everyones beat down boy. they expect to see him play poorly so if they see him on the field, he's playing poorly cause that's what they're looking for. i don't think roy is who he used to be but i also don't think he's nearly as bad as the "vocal" make him out to be. running short of new convo, rehash the same. nothing new there, make crap up.

BRANDT SAYS ROY WILLIAMS COULD BE CUT

While making a long early-morning drive and listening to Sirius NFL Radio’s replay of Monday’s Late Hits with Jack Arute and Gil Brandt, we heard Brandt make an intriguing observation regarding Cowboys safety Roy Williams.
Asked by Arute whether recent changes in the enforcement of the illegal contact rule has hurt Williams’ ability to defend against the pass, Brandt offered a concise ”no.” Brandt, previously a long-time personnel guru with Dallas, said that Williams often is in position to make plays but simply doesn’t make them sufficiently consistently.

Then came the kicker. Brandt, citing an unnamed NFL source, said that Williams could be a cap casualty of the Cowboys if he doesn’t have a strong training camp.

We think the more likely possibility would be a trade, given that the problem potentially arises from Williams’ perception that he isn’t a good fit for the Wade Phillips defense. Besides, someone else would surely want a guy who has made it to five straight Pro Bowls.

Then again, maybe all of this chatter about Williams is aimed at getting him as motivated as possible for a “Super Bowl or you’re all fired” season in Dallas.

Jerry will NOT cut Roy because like the rest of us, Jerry is holding out that last little bit of hope that Roy's play will return to form.

Everyone knows that Roy returning to his previous form would make the defense absolutely dominant.

Jerry will give Roy this year. If he was going to cut the guy, he would have cut him a few months ago.
