Don't we still get the occasional Quincy Carter threads?

Roy will forever be discussed.

I think it would be the opposite.

This is not the "mediots". This is Gil Brandt saying that he was told this.

That buys some credibility. Or at least it should.

This is true. Brandt isn't just making things up. Note that the source is unnamed, and that it's an NFL source and not necessarily a Cowboy source, so it isn't exactly saying much.

I said that he should be cut, and got jumped on by some on this board. the guy flatout sucks. and he should be cut. he's not going to get any better.

We only jumped on you because it was a knee-jerk reactionary opinion that wasn't supported by reality.

And, for the record, Brandt didn't say he sucks or that he should be cut.

What's wrong with these mediots or pseudo-intellectual analysts like Gil Brandt. Who is that football expert poser any way. Please send that fool the Roy myth list along with Roy's positive tackling statistics.

On a less sarcastic note, I hope Roy comes into training camp farting thunderbolts and ends up proving the doubters like me wrong. I so badly want the "The Hammer" back. The Roy of a couple of years ago would make this defense crazy, scary sick.

I especially would love to see Roy treat Giants RB Brandon Jacobs like a human bowling pin. The old Roy had that mettle and physical prowess and intimidation mojo going on. At one time Roy struck fear in the hearts of the opposition almost like Mike Tyson. Iron Mike - the meanest, fiercest devastating warrior that you will ever meet with a lisp.

Which remains me of the old joke. What has 4 legs, barks and has no ears?
Mike Tyson's dog... What do you want it is goofy Tuesday...

I think Roy is primed for a big season. He was down 32 lbs about 2 months ago when they showed that segment on NFL Live so you know he is going to be in top shape coming into camp. Plus, this is the best secondary we have had on paper in maybe the last 10 years, even if Roy plays average he will be hidden better this year by the talent around him.

And no more Shockey to worry about!

He is going to be a cowboy this year. Let the improved corner quality play a factor in this. Roy never has and still is not a great cover safety. He plays well when he can get near the line of scrimmage. With better corner play we could see some old Roy again.

On Saturday's Cowboys Insider last weekend, Jones openly gushed about strengths/depth in 2 certain areas, specifically mentioning the secondary.

His point was basically how he was content to let teams come to him, as TC's shake out and teams discover needs.

WR's Roy Williams and A. Bolden were names he freely mentioned, as "not dead" possibilities.

Wrong Wrong Wrong. you can not hide Roy williams. other teams know where he's at. and they are going rigt after him. just like they did he,Reeves and Nate Jones last year. Roy has got to go. he can not be a starter again this year.PERIOD! the guy is flatout terrible.

I feel a 20 pager coming

But, a team without Roy Williams, the safety, would be just fine by me :D

Roy will play Special Teams and see a reduced role that has him on sidelines on any passing situation.

BRANDT SAYS ROY WILLIAMS COULD BE CUT

Posted by Mike Florio on July 22, 2008, 10:37 a.m.

While making a long early-morning drive and listening to Sirius NFL Radio’s replay of Monday’s Late Hits with Jack Arute and Gil Brandt, we heard Brandt make an intriguing observation regarding Cowboys safety Roy Williams.
Asked by Arute whether recent changes in the enforcement of the illegal contact rule has hurt Williams’ ability to defend against the pass, Brandt offered a concise ”no.” Brandt, previously a long-time personnel guru with Dallas, said that Williams often is in position to make plays but simply doesn’t make them sufficiently consistently.

Then came the kicker. Brandt, citing an unnamed NFL source, said that Williams could be a cap casualty of the Cowboys if he doesn’t have a strong training camp.

We think the more likely possibility would be a trade, given that the problem potentially arises from Williams’ perception that he isn’t a good fit for the Wade Phillips defense. Besides, someone else would surely want a guy who has made it to five straight Pro Bowls.

Then again, maybe all of this chatter about Williams is aimed at getting him as motivated as possible for a “Super Bowl or you’re all fired” season in Dallas.

I've been saying this since the season ended.

He is not immune, I've seen better players cut.

He better perform or I really think he is gone one way or another.

why would he be cut? Who would play safety?

Couldnt you at least trade him?

Can camp hurry up and get here so this stuff can stop.

I think Adam JT13's already shown that the Boys don't need Williams' cap space, and I believe they don't really gain much by cutting him.

For the sake of argument, if Williams were to be let go or traded, Hamlin should be able to slide into the strong safety position--he's big enough and an explosive hitter--with Henry moving to free safety. Lots of strong safeties in the league now are built more like free safeties than in the day when everyone wanted a big, in-the-box quasi-linebacker. The NFL's a passing league now, so lots of teams have moved to stronger coverage guys and are passing on the Adam Archuleta types.

Also, I think Jerry Jones loves Roy Williams, and I think it's unlikely he'd let him go without at least one more season to see if he can still be the playmaker he was a few years ago.

Roy will probably get the full year to prove himself.

However, while Millen is GM in Detroit I consider anything possible up to and including a RW for RW trade.

I just believe that Darren Woodson was a big part of Roy Williams, I mean the guy had Roy in the right position. (Wishful Thinking) I wish one day in the future that Darren Woodson would come to Dallas as a Safety Coach and Deion Sanders as the Conerback coach so they would be secondary coaches but only for one position to look at.

I believe a 2nd and 4th round draft picks land Roy Williams... A 1st and 3rd will land Chad Johnson (only if he becomes more of a problem for Bengals going into to the trading deadline week)...

Roy Williams S, Cowboys being trade or cut, stop dreaming.

Take this for what it's worth :: "Signs and symbols are apart of the conscience mind"- a wise man told me.

Meaning Dave Campo symbolizes this situation with RW and so does him changing his no. 38. It puts a question in your head about whether Roy will become dominant like he once was when he came in for the first two years. I believe Campo knows what it take to get RW back to being put in the right position to make plays (tackling, intercept, sack, etc.)

To be honest with you RW patteren is inconsistent in statistics. For example in 2002 he recorded more tackles than 2003, but less pass deflections than 2003. According to NFL.com in 2002, RW recorded 99 total tackles, 2 sacks, 5 inteceptions (2 touchdowns), and 3 passes defended. (He was also guided by Cowboy all-time great safety Darren Woodson this year.)(This year in 2002 Roy was knocking anybody who got in his way out of the game) (Also RW was a free-safety.)

(Without Darren Woodson) RW numbers decreased in 2003, RW recorded 72 total tackles, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 6 passes defended but also notice that RW didn't allow too many big plays. (Roy Williams was still a force because of his big hitting ability.)

A better year in 2004, RW recorded 94 total tackles, 2 interceptions, and 8 pass deflections. (PRO BOWL)

In 2005, RW recorded 81 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, 7 pass deflections, and 3 interceptions (1 touchdown).

Roy had a better year with interceptions in 2006, when he recorded 62 total tackles, 5 interceptions, and 9 pass deflections.

Less interceptions but more tackles came in 2007, when RW recorded 92 total tackles, 2 inteceptions, and 5 pass deflections.

I believe Dave Campo would use a more aggressive approach with Roy Williams that might allow him to get more sacks, big hits, and interceptions.:starspin :starspin :starspin :starspin :starspin :starspin :starspin :starspin :starspin
