Brandt Says Roy Williams Could be Cut

You don't cut a player like Roy Williams, that would be just a flat out stupid decision. You either trade him or keep him, but you don't cut him. No wonder the source is unnamed, he doesn't wanted to be ridiculed for the stupidity he just offered.

unnamed source = opinion only, no proof

Championship!

I wouldn't cut Roy. I would listen to trade offers, but not cut.

Trading Roy = Good times!!!!

Let the bidding for Roy start...and the good times start rolling....:)

Stupid is, or Stupid does?

Another one that went out and spent $120 on the # 38 jersey I gather???

Stupid is. That wasn't clear?
I'm not particularly a fan of Roy, and never have been, so I don't have a jersey. Then again, I'm not the one knee-jerking.

Greg Ellis: "I usually speak for Roy and I don't like the sound of this. Roy just needs more confidence. That's all. But, hey, did they say anything about me? I'm the starter, right? Has Gil Brandt heard anything about my situation? Geez, maybe I better see if Jerry will clear this up for me. Another year added and some more money would help. No one has talked to me lately. What's up with that? Something's going on. They're probably about to cut me, not Roy. Crap. That's what's happening. Dang. I might as well stay home. They don't want me. I'm sure of it."

Chief you have been cracking me up l8ly, lol.:laugh2:

why would he be cut? Who would play safety?

Couldnt you at least trade him?

Can camp hurry up and get here so this stuff can stop.
I agree 100%

Jerry will NOT cut Roy because like the rest of us, Jerry is holding out that last little bit of hope that Roy's play will return to form.

Everyone knows that Roy returning to his previous form would make the defense absolutely dominant.

Jerry will give Roy this year. If he was going to cut the guy, he would have cut him a few months ago.
i agree with you, hoof

Roy will not be cut. Possibly traded? I guess there would be a slight, outside, chance of that happening, in some possible deal that would net the Cowboys a #2 WR but outside of that I doubt that has any shot of happening.

Haven't you been here long enough to know that training camp isn't going to makes these things go away. It just puts more emphasis on it.

Its funny last year in the game chat we would see a big play and a couple times I commented...."here come the Roy comments" as soon as I said it....its roy's fault, etc......blah blah blah....Replay shows......wasn't Roy's man.

RW is still playing solid football. Maybe not at the superstar level and maybe not at a level that justifies his contract, but he is a solid player. There are more safeties on other teams that start and miss far more tackles than him and allow far more TD's than him. He is a good player....he just hasn't been a gamebreaker for us lately that we need him to be. Stop being overdramatic drama queens.

I would be surprised if he was cut this year. Next year for sure, because of his contract. He has no trade value with his current contract. Roy does suck and the faster he is out the door the better.

He would be the best Safety on your team ..... and he would have been last year at this time as well.

He's not getting cut, that's quite ridiculous.

I do see a scenario where Anthony Henry replaces him, and he becomes a situational player, with full time work on special teams. He has always been a good special teams player.

So, assume this did happen, just for argument's sake.

What would you say?

it's not going to stop. it's never going to stop. the most that will happen is one overbeaten topic is replaced with another.

if a thousand literary geniouses all got together and typed soley about the roy williams topic for a year, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and for 365 days of that year, not even taking xmas off and tagging and out for bathroom breaks -

nothing new would be said on this topic.

This is not the "mediots". This is Gil Brandt saying that he was told this.

That buys some credibility. Or at least it should.

BRANDT SAYS ROY WILLIAMS COULD BE CUT

Posted by Mike Florio on July 22, 2008, 10:37 a.m.

While making a long early-morning drive and listening to Sirius NFL Radio’s replay of Monday’s Late Hits with Jack Arute and Gil Brandt, we heard Brandt make an intriguing observation regarding Cowboys safety Roy Williams.
Asked by Arute whether recent changes in the enforcement of the illegal contact rule has hurt Williams’ ability to defend against the pass, Brandt offered a concise ”no.” Brandt, previously a long-time personnel guru with Dallas, said that Williams often is in position to make plays but simply doesn’t make them sufficiently consistently.

Then came the kicker. Brandt, citing an unnamed NFL source, said that Williams could be a cap casualty of the Cowboys if he doesn’t have a strong training camp.

We think the more likely possibility would be a trade, given that the problem potentially arises from Williams’ perception that he isn’t a good fit for the Wade Phillips defense. Besides, someone else would surely want a guy who has made it to five straight Pro Bowls.

Then again, maybe all of this chatter about Williams is aimed at getting him as motivated as possible for a “Super Bowl or you’re all fired” season in Dallas.
I said that he should be cut, and got jumped on by some on this board. the guy flatout sucks. and he should be cut. he's not going to get any better.
